I stayed here in a partial ocean view room last winter for two weeks, it is not what you expect! I thought that it was a good place to stay for a good price if your only looking for a place to sleep! I'm sure if you upgraded to a ocean view room the room would probably be much better quality. The place is definetely in due for a renovation and the cleaning services could have been done a little bit more often! The view across the street from the condo was great and I enjoyed listening to the ocean in the morning. The parking is free and it very convienient to shops and restaurants! But if I was to go back to Kona again I would not stay there!

The accommodations at Castle Kona were nothing to complain about. The room was spacious and clean. But if you want to stay there, consider requesting a room with an ocean view. My room was across the road, and it seems if you're going to go to Hawaii, you should enjoy being in Hawaii (including the view and hearing the ocean). Also, it was just far enough away from any dining or drinks options to walk, and driving and parking was slightly inconvenient. It might have been nicer to be in the heart of the action.

Property had major construction going on so I was awakenen by a hammerjack every morning tearing up the asphalt below our unit. The shower curtain had mold and mildew all over it, the fridge was left dirty, no one wiped it out from the tenants before us. And the unit was HOT! it didn't cool off until after the sun was going down.

The Two-Star rating is about right. The best feature of our "Partial Ocean View" room was watching the surfers across the street every morning from our lanai. Unlike the "full ocean view" units on the ocean side of the street, ours had an window air conditioner which we used. The kitchen was reasonably well equipted (full fridge, stove, microwave, blender, coffee maker, adequate cookware, glassware & dishes) but we ended up buying them a decent paring knife and some new ice trays from the nearby Wallmart. The room was clean enough and the sheets and towels were very clean, but the bedspread and pillow shams were quite worn. The daily maid service was inconsistant. We had to ask for them to empty the trash and provide new towels on a couple occations. Ample free covered parking was available and the room had free wired internet which we really appreciated. The location is south of the major town area of Kailua-Kona making the great snorkeling adjacent to Place of Refuge an easy drive. They had a great courtyard pool and hot tub that we had mostly to ourselves. It was perfect for my economical standards but my husband would have preferred something more "posh" (and a lot more expensive).

I stayed here 18 years ago and returned. My wife and I found it had been well maintained over the years. Very comfortable beds and units have everything you would need. The shore near the hotel is frequented by green sea turtles. Some of the best snorkling is only 2.5 miles south at Kahaluu Beach Park. The Kona Bali Kai is a great value for your money and I would stay here the next time I am on the Big Island.
