  The General's Quarters Bed & Breakfast is a nice old Victorian in a neighborhood of pretty antebellum homes. Downtown is only a short walk away. The inn and room were well maintained and quiet.
  
  There were two aspects of our stay that were less than satisfactory, however:
  
  1. Booking - There is a website which appears to be the "official" web site of the inn(www.thegeneralsquarters.com) where reservations can be made online, but the inn owners apparently know nothing about the site. Rates quoted over the phone for a particular room and discount (i.e. AAA or AARP) varied significantly vs. those available through online travel and the "unofficial" website. Also, depending on which of the inn owners we spoke with, the rate was different.
  
  2. "Full Breakfast" - Even though weekday and weekend room rates are identical, during our weekday stay the breakfast only included two types of cold cereal, juice, and cold pastry. We were told that full breakfast was only served on weekends. It was a shock to smell bacon cooking as we came to breakfast, only to find that the chef/owner was preparing food for a luncheon! I hated to think that our weekday stay was subsidizing weekend guests' sumptious hot meals. Even motel continental breakfasts offer far greater selection than this.
  
  The owner/chef is apparently a good cook. We wouldn't know. Perhaps he is more comfortable in the kitchen, as he did not seem to have a friendly, outgoing manner which makes one feel welcomed. A large part of the bed & breakfast experience is how much "at home" guests are made to feel, and that aspect seemed to be lacking at this inn.

  I was looking to a lovely hotel with lots of southern charm. The Generals Quarters had it all. My room was lovely with view of lovely gardens, the breakfast by Chef Luke was fabulous and the inn was clean, beautiful and perfect in every way.
