Despite pleasant lobby appearance and a truly great restaurant, the HHI Kolkata is by no means a ""luxury"" hotel. Service is amazingly inefficient (cashiers slow, lots of paperwork at sign-up, kept calling about check-out time, though it was on appplication), staff is not at all knowledgeable about the sites (concierge gave wrong times for open times of nearby sites, the duty manager pleaded ignorance because he hadn't been back in Kolkata for long, there were no decent maps available) and they forgot my wake-up call, so I would have missed a meeting had I not woken up on my own. They charged me for a taxi ride I didn't take, then took an hour to clear it off my bill. Rooms are old and dated (look like a 50s/60s motel in the US). But their Indian restaurant has great food and the location is quite central. After staying in a real 5 star in Bangalore, where we ate everything we wanted, both my colleague and I got sick within a day of staying at the Kolkata (eating only in the hotel).

A group of spiritual terrorist attending to high level guests spiritually encrypt ing guests to be raped, murdered, or otherwise at cost of their money being untapped later. Physical world aggressive action "forced escorting" to rooms, etc. Say "working out community issues." All this our opinion. We had already booked long guaranteed stay so are transitioning out of hotel. Reason why this 5 star is 150/night versus 200-250 for other 5 stars in Kolkata; not worth the price. In general, the hotel staff is very poorly behaved by standards they would accept themselves instead of their guests. This is my opinion and my husbands opinion.
