The grounds of the hotel are very well kept and spotless. However if you are allergic to mold, mildew and can't stand a rock hard bed, this is not the place for you. Our room was on the 2nd floor and the roof was grass. We brought this to the staff's attention and with every possible effort, they tried to correct it; because of the grass roof it couldn't be corrected. The evening we arrived at the hotel, we were approached by one of the concierge welcoming us to the island and because we book our trip thru a travel agent he would like to send us over to the sister hotel for breakfast and tour the following morning. For doing so, we would receive promotional gifts, discount coupons towards car rentals and shopping to use during our stay. It was a 2:50 minute sales pitch to by into Occidential's "time share" vacations. With the exception of the mold and rock hard bed, the hotel and staff were extremely helpful and nice. We will not return to this hotel in the furture or any hotels owned by Occidential.

If you are single or a couple looking for a peaceful, quiet, serene tropical setting. . ..look elsewhere. This place caters to families with children! It has a huge water park and playground, day and night activities and entertainment for the kiddies and parents right outside your room. If you like it noisy, then this place would be perfect for you. If you are wanting to de-brief from a stressful work environment or life siturations, stay clear, you will not find it here. Look for adult only hotels. On a more positive note, this place does have the best beach and walk out snorkeling on the island. The on site dive shop is a plus, because you can schedule all of your water trips and water sport activites without leaving the hotel. The all -inclusive buffet meals become boring after a few days, so if you are adventurous rent a car or hail a taxi and go into town or around the island to find other restaurants to sample. We found the service personnel to be very friendly and very attentive to their customers. They were patient with us when we tried to practice our Spanish with them.

The staff at Occidental resprt in Xcaret offered to transfer us to Allegro for free round trip. Then we realizied that it was a downgrade. Allegro has very nice beach, little kids pool but everything else is bad, starting with the rooms: uncofortable beds, no alarm clocks, safe boxes with no lock. The free buffet is very bad, no variety of food, missing the most basics elements (salad) with no service to speak of. You have to make reseravtion in the mexican restaurant ( I don't know why, it was half empty) and most of the time they tell you its full. For some reason even the people in the resort are not friendly

We booked at the Allegro for our honeymoon and were quickly surprised to find out that many of the amenities listed were not there like the bath robes. The room was very small and lacking the most basic features like a clock and good lighting was extremely poor. The vaulted thatched roofs made it easy to hear everyone outside or next door. We never ate at any of the Allegro restaurants only at the buffet the first (and only) night. The food and liquor were an extreme disappointment. Needless to say we checked out after only one night and moved to the sister resort next door, the Occidental Grand. Other thoughts and observations: The hotel/property was littered with cups and dirty plates. Guests seemed to not care about picking up after themselves. The hotel seemed to be understaffed, so cups, plates and clogged public toilets didn't get prompt attention. There were many intoxicated teenagers, young adults being rude and disruptive. We booked our stay through the website . The truth is that some of the rooms are owned (time share) and others are open for the general public to book (not as members). So, if you want to stay here and don?t want to be treated as a second class guest, find someone who is a member and book through them. If you?re looking for a place to party then maybe this is the place for you, but we would not recommend it for couples looking for a romantic getaway. The Occidental Grand may be more to your liking.

We stayed in July of 2007 and had the best time! Food was great, something for everyone. Staff was friendly. Beware of offers for free jeep rentals, etc. If you want it bad enough to spend a few hours touring other hotels, go for it! But otherwise stay away from those folks right outside the lobby. The Dive Masters are excellent and the dives were absolutely beautiful. Ask for Sergio! We will definitely be back again and plan to bring our kids next time.
