This hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places, this place is the original grain silos for the Quaker Oats Company. Quaker closed the plant/mill in 1970 and since then it has become a Quaker Oats themed hotel and restaurant. One of the best deals for the money, in that the downtown parking and hot/cold breakfast buffet was included in the room rate. Hotel was also very close to The University of Akron, so my commute was about 5 minutes by car. There also seems to be a shuttle that runs from the University to the hotel (based on signs I saw), so that would be conveinient if you have business at the University. Since the rooms are inside the old silos, the room is round, whch makes for a unique floor plan. The room was well appointed, the king size bed was VERY comfortable, the pull out sofa was adequate, and the TV/Cable was in working order, with free HBO. The bathroom was a little tight (putting a square sub-room in a round room) but nicely furnished, and the shower had great pressure, and was responsive to slight changes I made in temperature. Only bad thing to report was that the AC unit was a little loud when it would cycle on. I had to turn it off so that I could sleep. Other that that, the AC unit kept the room cool.

Overall the hotel and property are under maintained. The first thing we noticed were large concrete flower pots outside by the front door with mostly weeds growing in them. The hotel lobby smelled like a musty basement. The desk clerk acted put out or too busy even though we were the only ones there. The single door to the adjoining rooms had a loose door handle that was falling off. The doors to the rooms slammed with the force of a staircase fire escape disturbing us and the neighbors. The dimly lit room was 30 foot across with a 25" TV on the opposite wall from the bed. The TV could not be heard over the rumble of the air conditioner which was directly next to the bed. An iron and ironing board was supplied yet the only accessible outlet was in front of the bathroom sink. The indoor pool was cloudy with a vent fan banging loudly overhead. The outdoor patio was in a state of disrepair with the indoor/outdoor carpet loose, the outdoor lighting mostly burned out and more large concrete planters containing weeds, not flowers. On the bright side, the restaurant offered a complimentary breakfast that was fresh and delicious.

This hotel is impressive because it is truly unique. The architecture and work that was done to turn the old Quaker Mill into a hotel is amazing. It really has to be seen to be appreciated.
Our room had a balcony overlooking the University of Akron, which was very enjoyable for my girls, ages 9 & 8, (no danger of falling off). We thought that the beds were very comfortable. It also was nice that the TV could be turned and viewed from the beds as well as the living space. I was extremely pleased that, being located in downtown Akron, the parking was free. I would also like to note that there were security officers present , as I saw them on two different occasions during our stay. I'm noting this only because it was good to see them, since I am a mom traveling alone with my daughters and security is important to me.
My girls liked the pool very much and we were very lucky to have it all to ourselves that evening. All of the staff that we encountered during our stay were extremely nice and helpful. We ate in the restaurant, which was very casual. The food was good and the train theme is really neat, lots of kids enjoyed the minature train. Would stay again.
