Our experience at this hotel was quite opposite from your other reviewer. I've reported on it twice before but it has not been included in your reviews, so dates may be slightly off. Our most recent stay was in early September when we evacuated to Vicksburg because of Hurricane Gustav. We had stayed here for one night several weeks before while visiting relatives. On this trip, we spent six nights at the hotel and found everythiing from Complimentary Valet Parking, helpful bellmen, wonderful desk clerks and a sparkling clean room. Spent very little time in the casino so won't comment on that. Washington St downtown's main shopping area is two blocks away...UPhill...but once there, you can dine at Borello's a wonderful Italian restaurant and a little snack shop called, I believe, U60 (not sure). All downtown has wi-fi. We're planning a return to Vicksburg shortly and we'll be staying here.

We have just visited this hotel again for four nights and found that all of our previous praise for it remains true. Desk clerks were exceptionally friendly and helpful...rooms were clean, bathrooms shone. Valet parkers/bell men were on the ball. The hotel is right downtown and except for a very high hill to climb (San Franciscans would have no problem) the historic city is just a block away. At $* daily and $* weekends...can't be beat.

We stayed here last night and had a wonderful experience, Of course, we had reservations, confirmation numbers and reservations at Josh's, their fine food restaurant where service and food excelled. Parking was no problem with their Complimentary Valet service which was super, even during the rain that came with Tropical Storm Fay. Our rooms were clean, the beds very comfortable (no usual backache when I awoke), the amenities, quality name, the AC had us chilled til we turned it down. And, best of all, my absolute criterion for satisfaction, the shower was a Blast....A Speakman shower head that even with, I'm sure, was equipped with a water saver, had lots of pressure and gave me a great wake-up bath. I recommend the Horizon without exception and will stay there again when I return to Vicksburg.

Booked directly through hotel. When we arrived we decided to pay with cash so each of the women would pay their share. The receptionist said in a disguisted tone "Oh God I already turned my cash in" We did arrive at 1130pm. Then they admitted to messing up our reservations, yet made no attempt at fixing them. They stated the hotel had been overbooked and the receptionist at the front desk told her this was not her problem. So, we had married men and women with spouses at home having to stay in the same room. Not appropriate. I spoke with everyone from the receptionist to the hotel manager. Nothing was fixed. I felt like I slept on a pile of rocks, which turned out to be a matress from the early 90s. We ate the buffet for breakfast and at the bar for dinner. The food was decent, but decent service was never found. While on this trip they also repaved the road in which you had to walk across from the parking lot. So, my trip became even worse when my favorite shoes were covered in tar on the bottom. Vicksburg is an interesting old town. I just don't recommed staying at Horizon. Last year when we took this trip we stayed at the Hamptom Inn. Very nice, plush bed, with comfortable pillows/blankets. Approx. same price as Horizon with a better atmosphere.
