I was very impressed with the size of the resort! The view was absolutely breathtaking from our room. We were on the top floor facing the Carribean Sea and the Akumal pool. I took a picture and saved it as my wallpaper on my phone. There are so many pools and bars and things to do. We were only able to catch 1 of the nightly shows and it was very entertaining. The room was excellent in size and very clean. Actually the whole resort is very very clean. I was very impressed with the restaurants and the food. I would totally recommend this resort, however, keep in mind that it is about 2 hrs from Cancun airport if you take the shuttle and drop off others on the way.

Well, we arrived and were told there were no reservations for us at the Akumal. Transferred to Coba Oremiere in the GZolden Circle ( bldg 7, quiet, close to pools but FAR from beach. Shuttles 10-15 minutes). Complainnts about our location were ONLY distance related from beach. All else great. Moved to ocean view at Akumal after 4 days. Best room we have ever had (bldg 47). Close to beach, pools, restaurants. Public relations people x and X were found to be the best I have ever met. In fact, they even comped us a few extra nights for the inconvenience with reservatiions. Tulum ruins is a 20 peso or they will charge you 2-3 American dillars if you don't have peso's. GET PESOS - you will need 51 PESOS each to get into Tulum - No other money accepted at ruins. The ruins are great, interesting and a beautiful view. Beach there ok too. 15-20 minutes from hotel. Taxi back $14 American. You should also take a taxi to the Akumal beach (bring snorkel gear or rent( go to the right about 100 yards and out about 70 yards to the grass in the water where the turtles are. 10 minutes from hotel. I decided to try Scuba Diving after seeing it at many resorts. $120 for Discovery dive, 289 for Scuba certification and 420 for open water certification. Great experience. I can't wait to do it again. This from not a great swimmer. Safe, lots of fun and you can do it. Try it for free at least at the pool. The dive staff were GREAT. Kind' calm and skilled. One of the owners was there and was great and friendly. Ask X about the Gahia Boxing Club. Enjoy.

I just returned from my third stay at the grand bahia akumal. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I don't know how you could be treated any better. The place is immaculate at ALL times. They really go the extra mile to keep the resort clean and lush. The buffet is better at Tulum than Akumal, but so much is available to you, you just have to figure out whats best for you. I have never had a bad experience here, and would recommend it to anyone.

This hotel is not meant for a relaxing time, in our opinion. We have been to many, many all inclusives and would never recommend this hotel. The Akumal part of this complex seems to be the last place everyone wants to eat at a buffet. Like everyone else we either went to either Coba or Talum. The food in the Akumal is very bland. There is though a very good ala carte, with the best filet mignon I've had for awhile. The beds are so hard they hurt. If you do decide to go to this resort ask for a foam topper from the desk. They have carts that go around the resort from one place to another because walking takes too long. It does seem to be a place for young couples to party and there were a few families there. We are in our 50s and would rather go somewhere else where we can shop for bargains. None to be found in the resort or surrounding shops. We had to ask our maid to come back and clean our furniture ,after 3 days of watching to see if the finger prints on the table had been wiped off yet or the coffee from the morning. The service was not good at Akumal a lot better at Coba and Talum. But the bad service was very present in all the bars. The beach at Akumal is very rocky. The one at Talum is much better with at least some sand to walk into the ocean. Also the pools are extremely cold.
