We had an amazing evening at the Comfort Suites at Houghton Lake. The Restaraunt was closed the night that we stayed so they upgraded our room for us! Our room was just amazing, overlooking the lake and even though it was rainy we loved looking out the window over the lake watching the seagulls and ducks. We were going to go out somewhere for dinner and then thought our room was so wonderful we just didn't want to leave so we snacked on snacks that we brought with us and didn't even miss the dinner. We left the door open all night and listened to the lake bumping up against the shore, it was so relaxing and wonderful - can't wait to go again, and we most definitely will!

I was very happy with this hotel. The staff, accomodations and restaurant were wonderful. I was hesitant about staying here. I called and spoke to a staff person. She addressed all of my concerns and was honest and accurate in both the improvements as well as things still needing to be addressed. Things still needing to be improved are: the temperature issues of some areas of pool/kids jacuzzi water; the flow of the lazy river; temperature and offerings at breakfast; the lack of a liquor license (previous owners had an illegal one and these owners are trying to obtain one), altho that was addressed very well and to everyone's satisfaction. Anything you needed, all you had to do was ask, and staff was pleasant, eager and prompt in addressing it. The pool area was clean and a staff person checked it regularly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. As you can see, the negative areas are minor, compared to the other positive experiences we had. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family, and will be back.

We really were looking for a good pool for the kids, and a clean hotel. In that regard, it was a success, and we would stay there again. On the other hand, there were small annoying issues that I would like to see improved. We had no remote in the room, and they weren't able to supply one. There was no lamp anywhere near the beds. After I requested one, they provided one with no shade. The food at the restaurant was just Ok, and they don't have a liquor license. But these are small issues. The management is new, and hopefully they will improve.
