Stayed 11/16-11/20/2009, GREAT LOCATION, friendly and attentive hotel staff and housekeeping was very thorough. The fixtures were a bit dated but improved from our last stay in 2005 and rooms have a small bathroom but we knew that in advance. Room was clean and bug free and everything worked as needed. Free buffet breakfast that had a good variety of hot foods, fruit and cereal was a great economical way to start the day. Birds are an issue (same as in 2005) as you cannot leave food unattended but we did not find this offensive and more comical to watch than anything else. Great viewing for sunsets in bar area and hotel is built right over the water with lights that attracts fish and eels at night. A small negative is no actual resturant at hotel but many close by within a short drive.Hotel was not full due to off season and thus noise was not an issue and not many children present. Weather at this time of year is always a factor and we had somewhat cludy but warm all week with the best days at the end. Trade winds a factor at some beaches but not at this hotel. Puiblic beach very close with a full and affordable swim gear rental tent which included a boogie float board with glass viewing portal so children can see the many tropical fish and turtles without a mask. Our overall experience was A+ and we would definitly recommend to others.

I love this hotel and have stayed here 2 x before. I love the location, the quiet, and the views are amazing. We sat on our balcony nightly and watched the turtles , eels and fish swim by. My only "complaint " is although the hotel was more than half empty, " due to the economy" as several staffers told us, we had to pay for an upgrade to an ocean front room. I had already booked and paid extra for an ocean view, so it's not like I booked the worst room catagory and wanted a free upgrade to the best. I just feel that the hotel should treat the clients they do have to the best possible experience they can. I think the charge for the upgrade was unnecessary, & it would have made us "raving fans" of this hotel without it. another note, the pool is old and run down which is no big deal with the beautiful ocean all around. If you are a "pool" person you'll be dissapointed. Finally, Food,, Hardly any! After breakfast there are no facilities to get a decent meal. The bar has some overpriced apps, and don't count on dinner unless you want a burger. It's dissapointing that a place this nice, can't have a decent resturant on site. .

My stay at the Outrigger was near perfect. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had stayed longer. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We had an ocean view room. Having coffee in the morning on the lanai, watching the birds and the ocean was the perfect start to each day. The breakfast was good, a lot of variety. Can't say enough about the staff, they were so hospitable. Looking forward to staying there again.

Found this place by accident- had booked another hotel that was unacceptable. This hotel was very clean- both the grounds, and rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful-went out of their way to help us find a particular dining option. The breakfast had lots of fresh fruit options, as well as a buffet with hot foods. We were there on a holiday weekend and the dining room staff kept the tables clean and were friendly and courteous. The grounds were fantastic-lots of things to do right at the hotel. Big bonus- the sea turtles swimming in the lagoon in front of the hotel. May not be the newest hotel on the block- but the beds were comfortable-( which is usually a problem for me )good quality linens used, exceptionally clean and fresh, the location was quiet and just outside of downtown Kona (within 5 miles). Would stay here every time we return to the Big Island.

The Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort was a lovely hotel. It was a great base for our ten day stay on the Big Island. The rooms are comfy and the refrigerator came in handy. I bought different kona and Ka 'u coffees and tried them all in the privacy of my hotel. Walking the tide pools. Watching the eels and turtles glide through the bay was so relaxing. Convenient snorkeling in the next bay. You can rent snorkel equipment right on the beach. Although there is better equipment available elsewhere. Pay parking for the rental car but there is a shuttle bus that runs every twenty minutes from the hotel to take you around Kona. Overall me and my husband were very happy with the accommodations. House-keeping was rather sporadic. They gave you new towels whether you needed them or not. Not too much attention to detail. Actually took my own personal towel to the laundry one day. It took days to get it back because laundry is sent out but I did get it back. The concierges were extremely helpful for booking activities. Many children in the hotel looked like they had tons of fun in the swimming pool. Free buffet breakfast was fantastic. All the hotel employees were very nice. Catch the happy hour in the bar from 4 to 6. Menu is limited in the bar and the restuarant does not serve meals except breakfast due to low occupancy of the hotel.
