I'm an alumnus of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and love to return to the Central Coast, Moonstone Beach in particular. This one-of-a-kind beach is lined with motels, many of which I've found are either too anonymous or poor value for the rate charged. Not so Cambria Shores Inn. I've stayed here in years past and loved the ambience and the fact that it's a traditional drive-up motel. Well, it's gotten better. It's (I believe) family owned, and they have just done a truly fabulous job of remodeling it. The rooms have comfortable beds, large flat-panel TVs (and a GREAT movie selection), with large, beautiful bathrooms. As an architect I tend to be pretty critical of buidling colors, materials and finishes, but what was done here is close to perfect. Add in the fact that it's pet-friendly (although I would have never guessed it from the cleanliness of the room) and they provide a large European-style breakfast basket outside your door (which is actually worth eating), and I have to say it's now going to be my preferred home base when visiting this fabulous part of California.
I have to adimit that I hesitated to write this review though; if it gets popular I probably won't be able to get in when I want to now. But they've done such a nice job, and they are all so nice, that I finally decided I had to do it. I hope others (especially people with pets) enjoy it as much as I did.
P.S. If you like good seafood while watching a beautiful sunset, try the Sea Chest just down the road! -

We spend 3 nights at this motel. Forced to be in three different rooms in less than 24 hours. Unbelievable treatment, considering my 76 yr. old disabled husband. Moved to a second room on 1st. night because heater did not work in first room - understandable, but forced to move to a third room because second room was booked by someone else on night No. 2 and management would not give these people the vacant room (the third room), but forced us to move. All of this in less than 24 hours.
