This is a very nice hotel featuring mostly private villas with private swimming pools. Our family stayed for 8 nights and had a great time. The restaurant was very good and they also have an on-site sushi bar near the larger resort pool that was enjoyable. Our ""garden"" villa had a full kitchen, pool, 2 bedrooms and 2 paths. Nice decor and furniture. Since it is on the outer end of town, transportation is advised. The walk into town is a couple miles on a bumpy dirt road. Good exercise, but not sure if I'd want to walk it each night. Cab and bus service to the Cala Luna is available. If we return to Taminindo, we'll stay again at this place. Recommended!

This hotel is ideal for couples who prefer peace and quiet over the bustle in nearby Tamarindo. On the upside, it has beautiful rooms, super landscaping and a nice pool. but service at the front desk is poor and construction noise at neighboring condo developments woke us up at 7 am! The road that connects this hotel with the town (Tarmrindo) is a bumpy dirt road with potholes as big as craters. But the beach is just a few steps away from the hotel rooms and at low tide you can walk to town on the beach.

The staff at the Cala Luna Hotel, were awesome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food was great, and location was good as well, close to Tamarindo but yet far enough where you had quiet and privacy. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially couples for the privacy and seclusion factor.

The hotel is located 2 minutes outside of town by car. I don't recommend you walk it because the road is dusty and rocky. There are security guards all over the property and entrances so it feels quite safe. The standard rooms are spacious with a private terrace. The beds are not as high quality as one would expect in a hotel of this class. The landscape makes you feel as if you are in a small villa even though you are surrounded by other rooms. The pool is medium-sized but the pool area is small for the number of rooms. The breakfast was very good with a lot of variety. The dinner was poor. Two out of our three plates were overcooked and over-seasoned. The service was very good for the most part with very friendly and talkative servers. The only serious flaw is that there were stray cats roaming into the restaurant that had to be constantly chased away. The poolside bar made very good cocktails but the service was slow. The tour desk was helpful but only staffed part of the time.

BEWARE! Hotel in the middle of nowhere. Dusty unpaved dirt roads. POOR front desk service. Unhelpful and disinterested in guests; interested only in talking on the phone & playing on the internet. Rooms OK, but bugs present. Beds hard and uncomfortable. The beach & town are too far to walk to. Nearby beach is a rocky dangerous shore. Hotel was mediocre, not a ""Small Luxury Hotel."" Restaurant was Good-ask for MAX. Hotel was 1/2 empty during busy season. Costa Rica is a roughing it vacation. Construction and dust EVERYWHERE. Surfing is Great, Scuba Diving is non-existent.
