Leading groups through Northern NM, I've stayed at the Horse a couple of times over the last 8 years or so and everyone has enjoyed it. I brought a group of 15 travelers to the Horse earlier this week and am sad to say that it was ABOMINABLE!! Evidently the Horse's new owner has failed to maintain both the grounds, kitchen, lounge and rooms relying on his underpaid and neglected staff to maintain a thread of normalcy. Unfortunately it's a dismal failure with dirty rooms and linens, unclean bathrooms (no toilet paper?!?!) and cheap supermarket breakfast items. Instead of serving as a steward for this historic inn the owner has allowed the Horse to fall into disrepair. Sad but true - the current website represents a happier and bygone era - the Horse is not habitable and should be closed immediately!
