why is there someone in our room

We reserved the room for 3 nights, checked in the first night and then had to make an unexpected trip to the in-laws the second night, so we packed up all our stuff and then came back for the 3rd night. We got in at 10 and went up to our room, and the key didn't work, so we went down to the front desk to have it recoded and it still didn't work. Then someone from inside the room says, "can I help you" they had given our room away! So we went back to the front desk and told them what was going on. They had checked us out because there wasn't anything in the room, and apparently when that happens they assume that you have left early. They told us that they checked us our because they didn't want to charge us for the third night in the room. If they had looked at our reservation it would have told them that we had prepaid for our room. Added on to that frustration it took them 30 min. to get us a new room and keys. This was a very frustrating experience, amplified by the fact that it was late, we had not yet eaten dinner, and the staff was not expedient about getting us a new room. The only positive things about this hotel were the free parking and the world market across the street

We have family in the area and when we visit, the house is usually "booked" :-). We stay at this hotel. In fact, we've been staying there since it first opened and have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and efficient, the security is great, the rooms clean and spacious, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast buffet has been tasty, with a varied selection. The location is great, in downtown Silver Spring, near shopping, movies and restaurants. We haven't used the pool yet, but it looks lovely.
