We spent half of our vacation at the Eco Lodge and the other half at a Costa Rican beach resort. My best memories from our trip were at the Eco Lodge. The Lodge is slightly outdated but it only adds to the charm. If you stay, make sure you upgrade to the cabins. They were awesome and had beautiful views. We could see the volcano erupting in the distance at night time. The other rooms didn't look too great. They were attached to the bar and dining room and couldn't have had any sort of view.
The drive from Liberia International is long and bumpy so be prepared. The dining is not too great but it works. There are not other dining options. There are hiking trails and horseback riding. The riding trails lead to beautiful views also. They also do ziplines which was a blast and easy for young and old alike. The hike there was the hardest part. This is definitely not a hotel for the high maintenance or luxury seeking. But, if you are in for an adventurous, uplifting vacation, you will love this. The biggest complaint for me was that there was nothing to do after 10 p.m. We would eat dinner at 6:30, sit at the bar until it closed at 10, and then we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. There isn't a pool or other form of entertainment. Overall, I would recommend this Lodge. I know I will never experience anything like it again. I have amazing memories from the Eco Lodge.
