We visited this resort from May 26-31. The staff was fabulous. We rarely had to wait for anything. Room was clean and roomy with beautiful furnishings. Mini bar was never empty. The food was plentiful and varied from day to day. Each buffet had made to order items at every meal. The burgers, quesadilla, pasta and omelet bars were a great addition to all the other choices. The bartendars were awesome too. Each request was made with a smile. The theater bartendars were the best. Drinks that were free flowing well into the night and quick service. The beach at this resort was phenomenal. We spent many hours in the water and on the beach. I can honestly say we never went to the pool, why with the white sandy beach just steps away. The snorkeling and other activities kept us busy and satisfied with our experience. I can't imagine going to any other resort. Thanks Barcelo Maya Colonial for making ouor delayed honeymoon such a great experience.

Family vacation 4/17/09-4/24/09. Loved everything about the hotel- clean, comfortable, great food, staff was friendly and very accomodating. Shows not the best but they did keep you entertained. Loved the beach and the pools. Lot's to do

Traveled Sept 10-17 with 3 couples. My 4th trip to Playa del Carmen. Been all over Carribean and I truly believe this area is one of the greatest values around. The beach at Barcelo Maya Colonial was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Turquoise water with fish at the reef you can wade through. Arrived at end of hurricane ike so water was too churned to enter w/o stepping on rocks the 1st 2 days. tried going in and stepped on a sea urchin - that hurt. But after weather calmed was fantastic. Lots of chairs in sun and shade. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Room was good but damp. Cant help that much. frig was never cold enough to drink the Modelo in it. Beer at pool bar was never very cold either but service was great. The buffet was very good. Really entertaining at Japanese restaurant. The shopping at the liitle village there had better prices than shopping in Playa del Carmen. They even had a Catholic mass on Sat & Sun evening at resort outdoor church but it was mostly in Spanish. Only bad thing was drinks were really not all inclusive. At piano bar they charged even for a Jack Daniels & coke, considering this to be top shelf. At Riu Palace I never paid anytihing for top shelf. After ordering the bar manager told me that if I didn't want to pay for it, it would come out of the server's pay because she was new and didn't know policy. This upset my husband very much and I know he won't return on principal of the matter. That was truly the only downside. Awesome place with perfect service besides that matter with the drinks. Lots of iguanas on property.

The grounds were immaculate and extremely well kept. Landscape was beautify, the picture of paradise. If you want a resort with a nice beach then you can't do much better than this resort. The pools were huge. The buffets were O.K. but the a la carte resturants on the resort were very good. There are 4 or 5 a la carte resturants and they give you tickets to go to 2 of them. If you want more you have to pay $15.00 extra but it's worth it because the food is good. Make reservations for them early because they book up fast. The rooms are clean and up to date. The servers, waiters, and housekeeping are very courteous and accomadating. I have read many bad reviews about this resort, however my stay was GREAT. Remember this resort is huge. It is made up of 5 different resorts grouped into one large complex, so if you don't like walking don't stay at this resort.

It was our first time to Mexico and an all inclusive. Everything was wonderful from the grounds to the hotel service. The beach had very few rocks and not far from our hotel. Would highly recommend this resort , can't wait to go back!!!! The Barcelo has somethings for everyone.
