Very convenient to downtown Kyoto shopping and restaurants, to the subway, and to the central train station. There's also a Starbucks in the lobby, which was where my 11-year-old daughter ate every breakfast (mackerel on rice isn't on her list of acceptable breakfasts). The views are also good, as this is a tower hotel. Cons include the fact that this is a western-style hotel, not a traditional Japanese experience. The bathroom is very small, and there's no shared public bath, as there are in the ryokan (Japanese inns). There are two computers in the lobby with decent Internet access (no charge), but they're often busy. The main thing we like about this hotel is its location, it's only a few minutes to the shops, restaurants, and department stores on Shijo Street. Down near the end of the shops is Gion, and access to the temples and shrines in the hills. There's a subway station almost directly beneath the hotel that has access to two subway lines, and Kyoto Station is only 2 stops away, for day trips to Nara, Himeji, etc. (Be sure to get a JR Pass for the bullet trains before leaving for Japan, since they don't sell them there.) We've stayed at the hotel twice (5 nights this year and 4 nights last year), and we've found it to be more than acceptable both times.
