My family and I stayed at the Pono Kai for 16 days total. 14 of the 16 were through the time share division, the last 2 days we had to move rooms and thus I booked our last 2 days at the same resort to keep things as easy as possible. What a mistake. We were moved to a independently owed condo that rents out through Marc Resorts. The room was a disaster. We couldn't get into it until after 4pm because the Marc Resorts allowed a late check out for a previous guest. We had to check out of our first room at 10am. We had to store all our bags and food (5 of us) in an open to anyone room for 6+ hours. When we finally got into the room it was an electrical nightmare. All the electrical outlets were corroded and everytime we tried to us any appliance, tv, microwave iron hairdryer etc they popped and sparked. I called the next morning to discuss the situation and they offered to move us again. NO WAY, it was too much of a hassle so we just stayed put and didn't use any electrical. After we returned to WA, I called Marc Resorts, told them what was going on and they told me that since they offered to rectify the situation by moving us they were not obligated to offer me any compensation.

The hotel is a typical older condo-hotel property located right on the ocean with b-b-q areas, a pool with hot tub, etc. Our unit was a 1-bdrm ground floor unit with a small patio --comfortable but not special. The best feature was its location next to a wonderful off-road public walking-bike trail that goes for several miles along the waterfront, and leads to several nearby beaches. A small commercial area with restaurants and souvenir shops is a short walk away. The hotel is far from stylish or lively; the check in attendant was on lunch break when we wanted to check in; was slow when we wanted to check out--though very pleasant. We had reserved a K-bed unit, but were given a Q bed unit (we didn't try to change it because we were booked for only one night and didn't want to spend another half hour at check-in.) Overall it was fine for its moderate price.

Was a great hotel, at an unbeatable price. 4 star all the way, location, food, drinks, room, service, everything was up to expected standards, where we could of gone somewhere else paying more to get a lot less. A winner for us!
