Awesome! the hotel exceeded our expectations...the rooms were just like the pictures in the ads. The swiming pools, the lazy river, the beach, the service...everything was perfect. They did try to get us to come down for a ""demostration and tour"" of the facilties and that they would treat us to a free breakfast/lunch, but we told them that we were not interested, that all we wanted to do was to enjoy ourselves. They left us alone and never called on us again. ""BEWARE"" ...when we were walliking out of the airport, there were many salespersons with signs announcing this or that hotel. One person even tried to grab our transport vouchers telling us that he would take us to the hotel and if that we would not let him, that we would run with ""bad luck"". We finally found the right person and he took excellent care of us. The best service we received was from tours (our transfer people). They were very organized and courteous, had all of our transfers ready in an envelope with the name and phone number of a person to contact in case we needed anything. When we got to our hotel, we opened the envelope and found several pamphlets from Vallarta Adventures. We called the person in the envelope to inquire about these. The tour company was very helpful, not pushy and answered all our questions. She set-up 4 activities for us, collected the fees from us and was at just a phone call away! AWESOME...

This is a beautiful property with excellent service and outstanding grounds. However, it is a 100% Time-Share facility - not a traditional hotel. It is very loosely associated with Wyndham and there are no Wyndham personnel to talk to there. It took the concierge 40 minutes to get through to Wyndham in the U.S. This, and all the Mayan resorts in Mexico, are owned by RCI - a time-share company. Several front desk personnel didn't even know who Wyndham was. Consequently, you are considered a "non-member" if you book this as a hotel, and have to wear a special non-member wrist-band - so, there is an extra fee for use of many amenities - gym, spa, room service, internet connection, etc. Plus, non-members are assigned lousier rooms and we had to agree to go on the 4 hour time-share sales pitch in order to get a room that did not overlook the construction site. Again, beautiful property but a time-share.

Our king suite was very spacious. It included two sofa beds in the living room, large kitchen area, king bed in bedroom along with an additional sofa and a large soaking bathtub. Bathroom was spa-like and the patio included a small soaking pool. The Grand Mayan has many things to offer. The best is the pool area. I would definitely recommend this facility, but be aware that you will be hounded by the time share sales force. They start at check-in, where you are sent to their desk to get your wristband. We just flat out said no and they did leave us alone after that, but we witnessed many people that were hounded. Taxis are readily available from the lobby and are very cheap to get to old downtown Puerta Vallarta ($16) or to Nuevo Vallarta ($5). DO NOT ACCEPT THE GROUND TRANSPORTATION THROUGH TRAVELOCITY WITH TUKARI TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT!! We did and prepaid $160 ($40/person) and it would have only cost us $20 total to taxi. We went on the "Sea Safari" with Vallarta Adventures and it was an excellent excursion. We actually saw a mother and baby whale within 20 feet of our boat. We thoroughly enjoyed this vacation. The only thing that would have made it better is for this facility to be all-inclusive. It has our recommendation.

Save time, money and frustration...Don't stay at the Grand Mayan!

My husband and I are travel agents and expected great things from a very expensive 5 star resort such as the Grand Mayan. We were first put into the wrong type of room (2 double beds instead of 1 king) and after being transferred to 4 people, disconnected and transferred to 4 more people on the second attempt, we just returned to the front desk. There we were treated like second class citizens. They already had our money and we felt as if they didn't care...and we are industry professionals! We asked for a room overlooking the pool/ocean area (the ONLY good thing about this place) and they didn't have any for Thursday, however some would open up on Friday. So we said that would be fine for them to move us on Friday. According to their "policy" they couldn't move a guest once they checked in. Oddly enough at the pool the next day we overheard a nine year old kid say how they were on the 3rd floor yesterday and today they are on the 9th...so much for policy and a confirmation of why some past Canadian guests call it the "Lyan' Mayan"...seems VERY fitting!
The room are average at best and when I asked for a coffee pot in our 5 star hotel room, I was told that only the suites got coffee pots...I've stayed at a 3 star hotel, which should have been a 1 star that had a coffee pot and was 3 times cheaper.
The best thing is that we left the resort and experienced the town. We found Puerto/Nuevo Vallarta to be a beautiful town filled with excellent restaurants and nice people, excercise caution though, people will take advantage and take unsuspecting travelers money. We look forward to our next visit!
