A total DUMP! We would not even get into the bed. We slept on top of it. We would not walk barefoot on that carpet that must be 20 years old and horribly stained!!! The pictures on the website reflect NOTHING at this MOTEL... The restaurant was out of business & there was NO continental breakfast? We paid *. for a nights stay at this place. The motel sign says AAA & ARP rated? Yeah Right?

I stayed on a Friday night with a friend after we'd spent a week road-tripping from Phoenix to Vegas and then back around to the four corners monument @ AZ/CO/NM/UT. I have some loyalty to the "chain" hotels but I'm always open to trying a local establishment - in any case the decision of the property was not really mine. In the future on visits to Cortez, CO... I would choose this location. B, the owner, was extremely friendly and very helpful in solving an after-the-stay customer service matter in which I'd forgotten a backpack containing a laptop with important business records. The whole snafu was entirely my fault - y'know when you're leaving a hotel room at 7am before having breakfast its easy to leave something behind. I never take an insistent "my lack of planning is now someone else's emergency" approach - when I phoned she and her staff were sympathetic and accomodating and made sure to get my backpack/laptop to an appropriate local shipping establishment who'd accept my payment for Fedex over the phone AND she took the time to follow up that I'd received the package. In short, she went far out of her way to help with my error. The property is being modernized with updated room heating/air. Rooms are very clean. There is a friendly restaurant on site. Local cable TV is available in the room with a good channel selection. I saw another review on another site complaining about security. In short - Cortez, CO is a small rural Colorado town. The parking lots are not lit up like daylight because they do not need to be. I have traveled a lot of truly unsafe places - you are safe here! I would recommend this hotel to my own mother.

The Mesa Verde Inn at Cortez is a simple hotel, but both clean and comfortable. The room had the amenities one would expect ... with a two-star hotel. When we asked the staff for an extra pillow and hair drier, they provided them happily. Our room was on the ground-floor, with prairie dogs playing out past the horseshoe pits ... fun to watch and listen to. The associated restaurant was very good, with nice folks working there. In short, a fine recommendation to anyone looking for budget travel options.
