  I'm glad I shelled out $$ more ($$$ total including tax) than I had originally planned for spending a night at a hotel midway between North Carolina and Vermont on I-81. The room and bedding were clean and well appointed. I had Internet access and HBO. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about local restaurants, gas stations, etc. They even saved my personal pillow that I had inadvertently left in the room so that I could pick it up on my return trip south. Although the motel isn't right off of I-81, it is only two miles away and easy to find (up one exit off of I-80). A decent (and free) breakfast in the morning started me on my way and saved me from having to search for one elsewhere. Free newspapers at the front desk.
