Upon arrival at the Sanibel Inn, the front desk clerk was very helpful and courteous. When we got to our beachfront room on the first floor, we thought it would be nicer to be on the second floor so I called the front desk and asked if there was a second floor room available. After a brief period of time, the clerk came back and said she did have a second floor room available that we could have. About ten minutes after we were in our second floor room, the clerk called to make sure we were happy with the room. She was very pleasant and wanted to make sure we were happy. The hotel has everything you could want for a beach vacation. We spent the majority of our time on the beach in the beach chairs provided by the hotel. Every day we had the beach attendant put up an umbrella for us and he was also very accommodating. We ate lunch at the poolside bar every day and the staff there was also incredibly friendly and answered all of our questions about Sanibel, as it was our first time there. Our hotel room was roomy and had a fabulous view of the Gulf. The room was very comfortable and the "kitchen" area was very large for a hotel room. The carpet had a few old stains, but was not damp as carpets can sometimes be at a beach hotel. The bathroom was clean, although the baseboards could have used a paint job; great shower water pressure. The air conditioning worked very well. I would highly recommend this hotel and we have plans to return next October, a fabulous time to visit Sanibel -- no crowds.

Did an off season getaway to Sanibel Island and chose the Sanibel Inn. What a great time we had! The staff was wonderful and everyone we met who worked there was extremely accomodating. The atmosphere was relaxing and since we didn't rent a car we found the bikes that the Inn provided were very sufficient. Next time around I would probably rent a car though to go into Ft. Myers. Beyond that you really don't need the car though. The room was on the second floor and had a nice partial view of the gulf; we thought it was completely accomodating for our needs with the small refrigerator and sink. The bath was roomy and clean as well. We would absolutely return for another visit because Sanibel Island is really a perfect vacation spot that offers endless beaches to walk, the Gulf of Mexico and beautiful sunsets. Thanks again Sanibel Inn staff!

I stayed here with a friend in the summer time in Florida. Given the heat, we passed on a few of the ordinary activities such as bicycling or power walking. The bicycles were free. The beach umbrellas you had to pay for which I thought was wrong, for a day, for half day. There was a decent poolside bar with salads, hamburgers, hot dogs also served. The staff was very friendly, helpful and outgoing. They went out of their way to be sure you had what you needed. We stayed in a beachfront cottage room which is basically a hotel room. The inroom refrig was small, freezer size only big enough for a couple of ice cube trays. Not a room to really eat in and the fridge is mostly for storing drinks, snacks. But the ice machines around the complex never seemed to run out of ice, so that was good. If I had to choose a room again, I'd go for one with a kitchen and a beach view instead of beachfront because it looked like all rooms had some view of the water from their screened balconies. The screened balconies were great--wouldn't do without one. My biggest complaint was that the water view-beachfront faced south so you never really got a view of the sunset in the west. This is because of the shape of the island and where the complex is located. That was disappointing. If a sunset is of high importance, you might want to find another place. There were not too many kids, also a plus. The pool was ok, looked larger in the photo. The water could be a bit more sparkling and clear. Favorite places to eat: Jacaranda for dinner runs about for two with a bottle of wine.

My husband and I very much enjoyed our visit to the gulf and stay at the Sanibel Inn in April 2009. If you are looking for a quiet vacation this is the place. Beautiful, clean beach, nice pool, free bikes, beach chairs and towels were a nice touch. We found many seashells , but only small in size. The front desk staff disappointed us, not as friendly as the reviews had mention. One woman in particular working at the desk acted like we bothered her with questions and information we were eagerly seeking answers for. The room was okay, carpet was stained and we felt it could have been cleaner. Our air conditioner kept freezing-up, and our alarm clock didn't work, but the maintenance man was excellent in quickly repairing them. Please take your time visiting the complete island, Captiva island was wonderful! We biked every morning out for breakfast and sightseeing. Timbers resturant was our favorite choice for dinner, esp. early-bird dinner, which was the same menu, but half the price, delicious. Island cow was over-rated and crowded Mct was also very nice. Great Italian dinner was at De la volce and a must, but pricey, and worth it. The Bubble Room on Captiva island was fun and had great food as well. We did not sign up for any excursions or day trips, most were too expensive and most reviews say they really were not worth it. All and all we would like to go back just to relax and enjoy the beach for a quiet vacation.
