The staff was very welcoming and attentive. This is a big * rooms; hotel that incorporates 8-9 buildings, none over three stories. We stayed, at a discount, on the ocean side of the complex. We parked under our building, allowing the shade to protect the inside of the rental car, and be cooler when we used it. The room was large, newly remodeled, and very clean. The bathroom was large with commode in a separate chamber. Towels were large and new. We had a walk - in shower. There was no tub. Some of the other buildings included B&B houses, restaurants, and a number of pools as well as a small beach for residents. A room in any of the buildings allowed one access to the amenities of any of the others. City streets run through the development, so this is not a resort campus in the newest sense. The hotel is situated at the far end of Duval St-the heart of tourist Key West. I would stay here again.

Although pricey, this hotel was worth it. We would definately stay again. After reading numerous reviews, my biggest concerns were that the beach would smell fishy and the rooms had thin walls. None of this was true. This is at the very end of the quiet ide of duvall-about a mile walk to get to the good nighttime entertainment spots. Two downsides-the hotel book water activites but they leave out of another hotel on the complete oppoite end of town. Also, the elevator kept sticking, which was a bit concerning for us. The beds were so comfortable-the best I've stayed in ever. We did stay on the 3rd floor and in a newer wing. The pool was spacious and clean-went from 3 feet to 7 feet. Bar drinks were pricey-be warned. Great cafe with reaonable prices with an ocean view. We will stay here again next year!

Hubbie studied all the reviews about this place. Considered the good- beachfront location....beachfront location...and beachfront location and then the bad- high prices....high prices.....and high prices, and we decided to choose the good over the bad but we were not happy that we did. The Hotel's beachfront location is a true benefit of the property but it means a lot less if you draw a room that has no view. And we did! Bad luck, sure, but we were stuck far away from beachfront and had to hike to get there. We are elderly so this deterred us from using the beach amenities. We wanted to be close to our own room's bathroom facilities if the need arose. You will know what I mean when you get old! LOL! Also, we discovered that the walk to Mallory Square from the Hotel was a walk too far (for us). Maybe if it had been cooler! Hope thes thoughts help you decide where to stay in Key West.

The hotel is very nice, but expensive. The rooms are new and clean, but has horrible lighting. My wife had to do her make-up in dim yellow light. The main room had a nice storage center with the tv and desk - the problem - no rubber stops so when doors were closed you heard it in the next room. We were routinely woken up by these small ""pantry"" doors. The food was average. Drinks were very expensive. It is on Duvall Street, but on the opposite end of the cruise dock / center of activity. The staff was friendly and willing to help.

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at Southernmost on the Beach July 24-27 to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. It was our first visit to Key West and we'd compiled quite a bit of recommendations on places to stay, eat, visit, etc. I must say we were very happy w/ the choice to stay at Southernmost on the Beach. The first night we stayed, everything was just as we expected and ideal. The next day, Friday, we were a little concerned about the preparations going into a reggae concert to be held on the property and were a bit bothered by the fact that the parking spots in front of our room had several larger trucks (concert-related) and really made sitting on the porch to enjoy the view and some R&R impossilbe. But, we were most impressed by the hotel's willingness to move our room and offered to do so w/out a fuss. The hotel did everything it could to ensure our visit was a good one and they efficiently and effectively handled a large concert crowd. We had no idea the magnitude of the concert when we rec'd the ""heads up"" phone call at home prior to our arrival and it wasn't until we arrived and saw just how big of a deal it was that we better understood all it entailed. The staff seemed completely organized and on the ball and the intrusion to the guests was minimal. We hope to return to Key West again and we'll certainly stay at Southernmost on the Beach. The location is IDEAL!! Close to Duvall (a blcok) but quiet!
