The Royal Hawaiian is a paradise resort sitting among the towers of the new megahotels pumping out vacation memories for thousands of people every day. Staying at the RH is a different experience from the other hotels on Wiakiki. Here, you are treated as a guest and left alone to do whatever you like. The ocean front rooms are worth the splurge. Keep in mind that the rooms tend to be small but they are crisp and well organized. The housekeeping was marvelous and always kept the room fresh and clean. There were always plenty of fresh towels and personal amenities. The location of the hotel sits on the most premier beachfront of Wiakiki since it has the best view of Diamondhead Mountain. There are plenty of food options off the property which can help with the budget. Also, each room has it's own empty fridge for you to use. Oh, Eggs and Things is not worth the walk. For a great breakfast at a low price go next door to the Hula Grill. They also have a great happy hour between 4 and 6 pm. Bottom line, if you can fit the Royal Hawaiian into your budget then you should treat yourself to the experience. Also, their flagship restaurant, Azure, is worth a visit. The sparcely decorated restaurant offers their own twist of high quality food dishes. I wish they offered outdoor beachfront seating. As of this review they only offered $* p/p cabana table with a preset three course menu. Their Mai Tai bar is also fun to visit at night.

After visiting the islands for almost 20 years, we finally stayed at the Roayl Hawaiian and regret all the years we missed not going there!! Our room was in the recently updated historic building. The rooms were beautifully redone, but just be aware there are no lanais in the historic building. However, the hotel makes up with it with offering morning coffee down in the open air lobbies where you can read your morning paper and lounge in a rocking chair. The staff was exceptional, from the refreshing cold towels and lei greeting on arrival to complete pampering when dining or at the private beach. We had a 7 year old who found more than enough things to do between the beach and the new pool with the water slide. If you want to experience what Waikiki was like decades ago, go to this tranquil oasis in the big city.

I was fortunate enough to get a duplex suite in the beach tower (I think it was the Maui Suite) and it was worth the investment. Unfortunately there was no bathtub, but the shower was big enough to host a reception. The suite faced the pool but was surprisingly quiet. The staff were very gracious and I loved the private section of the beach - though you have to get up early to beat the Brits to the beach chairs.

Awesome Stay! If you are looking for a little smaller hotel with a lot of charm this is it. From being greeted, the check-in......everything was awesome! Would recommend staying in the beach tower because it will give you access to a private drink/food area for part of the day, and they staff the area with a private concierge for that tower. The Mai Tai bar on the beach is awesome! Great drinks, Mai Tai is great, but need to try the Bahia (sp?). The food at the bar is great, try the margarita pizza, but make sure you add kalua pig!! If in doubt ask the bartenders. They were very helpful/friendly with suggestions. Also the hotel gives you easy acccess to all kinds of shopping, so the location is awesome as well. If there was one knock, the room was a little stuffy/humid, but nothing we could not deal with. When we do go back, we will certainly stay here again!
