- Please note that LaPlaya Resort and Spa changes a mandatory 17 plus tax Resort Fee per day that includes their Beach Butler Service with umbrella and chair set up, wireless internet in the lobby and guest rooms, access to the fitness center and fitness classes, please check on the class schedule upon arrival. This fee will be collected by the hotel directly upon check in.

The location was beautiful, easy to find and near some excellent restaurants and shopping. The service was excellent...always a friendly "hello." The bayview was worth the extra money. Even with that, we did not feel that we received value for the money. The hotel charges an extra $* for coffee service, beach towels, newspaper, local calls, etc. Most hotels include this in their price, so I was expecting a variety of coffees and teas with all the extras. For $* we received three one-cup serving size packs of regular coffee and no teas. We received one newspaper for the entire weekend and because the pool area was so crowded, we only used the towel service once. They also charge $* per day for mandatory valet parking. No self parking available. Everytime you retrieve or return your car, that's another $* tip, which adds up. During our first night there, we decided to go down to the bar and have some drinks. We ordered one mixed drink and one martini and the bill was $* not including the tip. We stayed at a four-star hotel in Sannibel not too long ago. LaPlaya is also a four-star hotel, but you receive a lot less value for your money. After talking with a few of the staff, it seems as if they are going through a bit of restructuring. Although they had great service and a beautiful location, I would not recommend this hotel and will not be returning. It seems as if they nickel and dime you to death and the prices do not match the quality you receive. I did not feel like I got good value for my money.

Positives: Nice, clean, spacious room with gorgeous balcony. Responsive service, well-equipped gym, and beautiful private beach with chairs and umbrellas. Could be better: The food was mediocre at best -- don't mind paying premium prices for room service if the quality is there, but only about half the meals even came close (avoid the bbq sliders and roasted chicken especially). The shower head was terrible, and the Internet access is not wireless, so you are stuck plugged in at a desk if you need to use it. Not necessarily the resort's fault, but still: False fire alarm went off in the middle of the night one evening, forcing grandmothers and children out of bed and down many flights of stairs. No hotel staff came out to the pool area where everyone evacuated to provide any update on why the alarm was ringing or how long the wait would be. (But if you visit during turtle season -- get ready for staff to pound on your door and call your phone if your room isn't pitch black at 10 p.m. Seriously.)

Stayed in the Beach House. Gulf view room was outstanding! Pools were great. Had to wait a long time to get service at the restaurant. But, the food was very good! Everyone was friendly.

My partner and I work for a 5 star hotel and are used to giving great service. This hotel lived up to the stardards that we are used to giving. The staff was excellent. Beachfront rooms are a must. Sunset on the the balcony is super romantic and breath taking. Baleen is a bit expensive but the service and food make up for it. The fire pit on the beach for sunset is a great idea. We met and mingled with other guests, making this a great way to meet others. Michael was our massage therapist at the spa.....superb. Great vacation. I could go on forever about this resort!!

My partner and I work for a 5 star hotel and are used to giving great service. This hotel lived up to the stardards that we are used to giving. The staff was excellent. Beachfront rooms are a must.
