I have stayed here on multiple occasions since we have a special rate at the hotel. Not all but many of the rooms are cramped and tiny and most have at least a couple of things that are burned out/not working/stained/broken. I had a bad experience once in which I couldn't shut off the A.C. It became freezing in the room, which I only discovered at around 2 a.m. so I didn't call to have it fixed then. Hotel has nice toiletries, bed and linens are nice. It's clean. The hotel is highly convenient if you need to be in Georgetown. Proximity to La Madeleine in the morning is very nice. Staff is decent/accommodating - will give you an early check-in, for example, if possible. You can do a lot worse than the Latham but if you get one of the tiny, old, partially rundown room, you will see what I am talking about.

Great hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and the adjacent French Cafe was delightful. The whole experience was like a European vacation. We will stay there again in future trips to D.C. It is in a very nice, safe neighborhood. The Circulator Bus line that runs on M Street between Georgetown and Union Station is fast and affordable ($1) and you can see all the sights around the Capitol and the Mall within minutes after leaving the hotel. .

The location is fantastic but the hotel itself is very average. The bed and pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. Seriously the pillows felt like bags of cement wrapped in a pillow case. They charge for use of wireless internet - $10 a night! But I found I could pick up the free signal from the Monticello with no problem. There is no coffee in the lobby in the morning. The hotel is very low brow in terms of doormen, services, etc. We had to call twice to get our shower fixed. At $*a night, this was no bargain either.

From the first welcoming e-mail a few days before my arrival, to assistance with a cab to the airport, my stay at the Latham was a perfect spot for my adventure in Washington. Comfort, location, security, and kind assistance were there for me all weekend. The only thing I wished for was a small refrigerator or easily accessible ice.
