I selected The Richmond based on reviews written on Travel online, so it's only fair that I should write a review after my visit. The Richmond is at 17th and Collins, which is about two blocks north of all the South Beach hoopla. This is a good thing because at night it can get loud with all the bands and crowds, yet the noise does not reach The Richmond, which means you can get to sleep. Try to get a room towards the back of the hotel just to make sure since there are a couple of hot spots across the street with loud music. Lincoln Street with all of the shops and restaurants is two blocks down the street, and Ocean Drive with all the bars and bistros is five blocks down and can be accessed by the winding pink brick path along the beach behind the hotel. The hotel staff is very friendly and accomodating. The room I stayed in was small, but nice. The bed was not as soft as I would like, but I was there for the beach, shopping and night life and was not disappointed. I would recommend this hotel highly.

I've read many mixed reviews on The Richmond and I was hesitant to stay there. If you're thinking of staying there, don't hesitate. The location is on the beach, close to the airport (taxi $32) and close to many attractions. We walked just about everywhere. We took a bus for $2 each into Miami one day for shopping and lunch. The front desk, lobby and bar/grill were always staffed with pleasant, friendly, helpful people. Employees always greeted us and someone usually opened the front door when we approached. Our room was ready even though we arrived well before check in and checkout time was noon, which was great because our flight was later in the afternoon. The front desk happily stored our luggage so we could have one more afternoon to do as we wish. They offered to call a taxi for us when we retrieved our luggage. I felt like they were all happy to answer questions and help us in any way they could. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable and we had no problem with receiving clean towels. There are no rooms with balconies, which I thought I wouldn't miss but I did. You can't see the ocean from the 4th floor or lower due to the beautiful palm trees so you should ask for a higher room or don't get oceanfront unless you enjoy watching the pool area. Towels are provided for the beach and pool. Try Maxine's across the street for a delicious outdoor breakfast. We also had wonderful meals at Grillfish on Collins Ave and Hosteria Romana on Espanola Way. Both are happy to serve you, even if you're in shorts and sandals. I would love to visit The Richmond and South Beach again!

The toilet paper holder located on the wall next to the toilet - was too close to the toilet. If I was a large person, it would have been arkward to reach for toilet paper. The toilet paper holder should be relocated, possibly on the facing wall. Otherwise the room was adequate.

I've been to Miami several times, and each time stayed in a different hotel. From now on, I will stay at the Richmond whenever I visit South Beach. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and attractive. The pool area is beautiful and the acess to the beach was extremely convenient. I'm looking forward to staying at this hotel again.
