Wouldn't stay in this hotel again

Just wanted to give an honest opinion from people that love to travel and never complain. When we got there they had given away our room and made us wait for more then 3 hours promising us a 5 star room, what we got was a no balcony dark area of the hotel, at night we would stay up killing Huge roaches and swatting mosquitos so as to not come back home with any major issues. When we asked for a new room they said they were booked but we new they had plenty. So i told them i'll handle it. The all inclusive restaurants weren't, you had to wake up early and try to reserve a spot if you wanted to dine in the nice ones but they were always full no matter how early i tried to book it. The entire time hotel employees were trying to get us to go to some kind of timeshare scam and when i declined they got annoyed which really pissed me off. In one word i can describe the Oasis Viva beach Hotel. "GHETTO" What we wound up doing which was actually fun was going to the other Oasis hotels because they would honor your colored arm band so the food was actually Great in the Grand oasis although one of the employees tried to tell us we needed special permission to be there which was contrary to what we were told when we arrived. What really surprised us is how much nicer some of the other hotels were that were actually cheaper like the RIU. Overall Cancun is very commercial and would not be my 4th choice in planning a trip as a couple, unless you just want to lay down by a pool and drink crappy booze don't go

There were many good things about this hotel. It was very clean, had great pools, good location (10 minutes from the ferry to Island Mujeres and 20 minutes from the airport), plenty of bars, and they definitely did not skimp on the alcohol. But, the food options were limited. They only had one option for breakfast, which was the buffet. It had the same thing everyday, but it was probably the best meal of the day. For lunch, you only had the buffet or an Italian restaurant. And worst of all, for dinner you had to make reservations to eat at their nicer restaurants (Mexican or Italian). You had to make your reservation as early as 7 am and if you got there at 7:30 am, chances are, they were both booked. Great way to spend a vacation..waking up at 7 am and rushing down to the lobby and standing in line everyday! They did have a snack bar open most the day, but it served the same thing everyday...poor quality burgers and fries. They had a sushi bar, but it wasn't open that often. They had a restaurant where you could pay, and the fact that so many people were at that restaurant paying when they could go have free food was a testiment to the food options. The common areas are very clean and updated, but the rooms have some issues. Most of the drawers in our dresser were broken, and we didn't have water pressure at all in the mornings. They also wanted you to be in your room when maintenance was there (I guess so you could protect your belongings) but maintenance took forever to come. Also, the hotel does not let you convert pesos to US dollars at the end of your trip.

Substandard Rooms through Travelocity

The hotel room that we were given at check-in was HORRIBLE! It was extremely small and in a very old and not very well maintained section of the hotel. The door did not latch and every time we opened the balcony, the hotel room door would fly open. We waited over an hour for maintenance and when they didn't show up I went dow to the front desk and demanded a new room. The supervisor was rude and didn't even apologize. He said that is the room we got because we booked through Travelocity. I told him that the door didn't latch and we wouldn't wait any more for someone to come and fix it. After a heated discussion, we were moved to a much nicer section of the hotel. While the room was nice, it didn't have a balcony. I would not rate this hotel a 3.5 stars...more like 2.5. Food was okay, but not great (even at the restaraunts). No premium alcohol anywhere at the hotel and what they did serve was watered down. Swim up bar was closed the entire time we were there, too. On an upside, the Concierge LETICIA was awesome! She made the trip bearable for us.
