  We stayed at the Hotel Rivoli in March 2008 and my only real complaint is, like many hotels in Florence, the star rating system is not a good guide in picking a place to stay. The Hotel Rivoli merits only 3 stars at best, rather than 4. While in Florence I found that many hotels that received 4 stars should more realistically be rated 2 or 3 stars, while other 4 star hotels were truly worthy of the distinction.
  
  It really comes down to the fact that, to merit 4 stars, the rooms at the Rivoli are in need of updating (the are very drab) and the beds are uncomfortable. Other than that, we had a very nice stay and rest of the hotel is quaint with the lobby and courtyard being very nice. In addition, breakfast in the morning was not bad. So for anyone looking to go to Florence on a budget without any high expectations, the hotel is fine.
