The location of the Nautilus is very good, the buildings are quite charming and the rooms spacious. However, although the bathroom was very clean it was very old, but everything worked as it should. The balcony could have been a little bigger as the view was really quite pleasant but not enough room.
There are no activities to speak of but we used the hotel as a base only and were pretty much gone all day after breakfast. The excellent public bus service stopped just across the street and was only 5 pesos each into town.
The food was average and not very diverse but the cooks and staff would try to accomodate a particular request if they could.
The swimming pool was as good as or even better than many others I have seen in bigger resort hotels. It had a full length swimming lane at the centre which I saw being used regularly.
Most of the residents were upward of 50, I would say and that also suited us. We enjoyed coming back to a quiet haven after the hustle and bustle of the town. The easy access to the Marina promenade and stores encouraged us to enjoy a stroll every evening for our excercise.
I booked this hotel on last-minute and so was pleased with it well enough for what we paid but I would have expected a lot more if I had paid the seasonal going rate.
I would not rate it as a 3+ star hotel at all but certainly a good and comfortable 2+.
This is a prime piece of real estate and with enhancement could be a very desirable hotel.

I was at the Nautilus with my wife and we got a free upgrate on arrival, a great room with jacuzzi. The Nautilus is good place to discover Vallarta as the bus starts right in front of the hotel. I went fishing and the captain came pick me up directly at the hotel at the hotels own dock...I'll be back this winter.
