Traveled to La Jolla from LA and from the moment we arrived, we were very impressed. The valets were courteous and professional, the FD was friendly and efficient, and the hotel was just gorgeous. We were looking for a couple days of peace and quiet and got just that. We actually never left the property, but no problem, as they have a great spa, nice pool and a very relaxing bar called Mustangs & Burros. We travel to different cities every couple months or so for a short getaway and rarely return to the same place twice, but would consider returning to Estancia - it really was nice.

There is no doubt about it, this hotel is swanky and beautiful. The front desk customer service is excellent, the room is beautifully decorated (although there were one or two stains on my furniture), and the balcony is almost unviewable by anyone who is not in the room and opens right onto a tropical garden. I paid a 2 1/2 star nightly rate for a 4 star hotel. It looks like a Spanish hacienda and has beautiful courtyards and fine dining. I had a $* glass of wine in their wine bar which was fantastic. The veggie wrap I ordered via room service was gourmet quality. They offer a wide array of movies at $* each. But be warned that the FEES and extras are quite high: $* a night to park your car. $* room service food delivery charge and an *% service fee tacked onto the food bill. A 20 minute phone call on my room phone to Los Angeles was $*. I asked for the manager and they removed the charge. (Cell phone reception wasn't very good so I had to use the room phone on that occasion.) $* a night resort fee which does NOT include the spa. If you don't buy a treatment at the spa, you must pay $* per day to use the spa's sauna, steam, and saltwater hot tub. However, the pool, outdoor hottub and workout room are included in the resort fee. Concierge service was quite slow and needed reminder calls. And there was a disgusting, smelly old blanket in a drawer in the room. The front desk said a customer left it, but a maid told me it was a hotel blanket. Overall, I recommend the hotel for its beauty and food, but beware of deals with fees attached!

It seems like everyone says the same thing, 'this hotel is beautiful'. Well, it really is. My husband and I stayed here last week and were impressed with how quiet and relaxing it was. The front desk said they were very busy, but you wouldn't know it. We spent quite a bit of time away from the hotel, but when we were there either in the room or relaxing at the bar, it was paradise.

My husband and I just took a vacation to San Diego and we split time between the downtown San Diego area and La Jolla. We chose Estancia and were very happy and surprised at what a beautiful hotel it was. I wish we had been able to stay longer! If (and hopefully when) we return to San Diego, we would stay again.
