This is not in my view a boutique hotel - it's a small hotel that has the feel of a stylized university residence (note the proximity to Ryerson University) and a vibe that may appeal to twenty year olds. Dim lighting virtually everywhere hides furnishings and hallways that need refreshing already (the hotel is about 4 years old) - very low lighting in rooms and halls give this a club atmosphere. Lots of lack of attention to the details - fixtures missing, massive sinks in the bathroom leaving NO counter space, window screens that fall off, no hangers, flimsy fittings in the closets, missing bathrobes, tv remotes that don't work,no or lack of lighting, the "meditation channel" didn't work, bulbs burnout, you have to hunt for the toilet paper, and a front desk that is less than experienced in dealing with customers. In sum it's the details that matter and keep customers coming back. The yoga mat in each room is, granted, a nice touch. Among the more curious suggestions from staff was to leave the dishes in the hallway (after roomservice) - that is dishes only, no covers or trays. Imagine the hygeine and pest implications. I raised my concerns and was moved to a larger updated room - however the issues were the same (except for the lighting, which was indeed better). Their manager is trying very hard but this is far from a boutique hotel - it's well suited to younger folks (20s) aiming for a stylish albeit dark club atmosphere. This is a stylish Holiday Inn - nothing more and not something I would do again.

Does not merit a 4 Star Rating

The worst 4 star hotel we stayed in. Looked nice in pictures but when we got to the hotel words cannot describe what we saw. All the walls are white with black scuff marks on them. We opened the door to our room and immediately we saw dust bunnies floating around on the hardwood floors. The tables had dust on them also as well as the baseboards. We checked out the washroom and the toilet had yellow/pink gunk all over the toilet seat like it had not been cleaned, the shower had soap scum all over the floor and walls, the sink table had soap marks on it it had not been wiped down, the washroom floor was dirty. I called the manager to take a look and he did not seem to be concerned about the condition of the room. He suggested that we move to another room. We went to check out the other room and it was the same story. We immediately called our travel agency to cancel our booking and were booked into a true 4 Star hotel. Please, please, please read all the reviews and take the bad ones seriously because they are true. I read them too but thought that they were just picky customers. Not so at all. This hotel is dirty. Management leaves a lot to be desired, too. DO NOT PAY BIG BUCKS TO STAY HERE.

Starting with the great rate that we got on a travel website this hotel was very nice. The floors are pergo so it feels very clean just because of that but the room was clean. The rooms are nice and roomy, bathrooms had a whirlpool tub and a separate shower. In every room is a yoga mat with blocks. There is an umbrella which we made use of one night. Turndown service will leave you serenity stones on the pillow instead of chocolate but that was intersting to look forward to. I couldn't find the ice machines but they delivered ice to my room upon request. The location is great, just a block from the Eaton center, across the street from Massey Hall and the Senator resturant (the oldest in Toronto and a good place to go). We walked from the hotel to the Princess of Wales theater, it is about a 20 min walk but very walkable. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel downgrades rooms

We booked our hotel through an online trave agency and were supposed to be on a serenity floor, with a king size bed, jacuzzi tub, etc. and when we arrived, we were advised that we were being ""upgraded"" to a queen size bed, and no jacuzzi tub. They advised that our upgrade included a kitchenette (which we had no use for). They advised that our ""upgraded"" hotel room cost more than what we paid for the original room we booked through the online travel agency. This was because all of their rooms ""retailed"" for more than what the online travel agency was selling them for. This almost justified a scam. THe online travel agency would not refund my money because I didn't call them until the next day. The hotel told me that day it wouldn't do any good to call the online travel agency that day because they were overbooked. Hotel looks nice in pictures but was filthy, the toilet had to be repaired 3x that night, parking is $ per night and the bed was harder than sleeping on their wood floors. Completely dissatisfied.

Stayed in one of their trendy Deluxe Suites for 8 days in August 2007. Great stay all around. The hotel is beautiful, although a bit too "modern' in decore for my tastes, but the staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The door men and cleaning staff in particular went out of their way to make me feel welcome and taken care of, and they made returning to the hotel at night very much feel like I was coming home. And the location around the corner from the Eaton Center and between to subway stops was absolutely ideal. The room itself was spacious enough, and being there over a week the ensuite laundry facilities were a real plus. The only down side to my stay was that the airconditioning system in the suite was hard to regulate. Temperature went from very warm to very cold with little in between, but really was not a big deal. Although a bit on the pricey side, I definitly recomend and intend to return.
