With your stay at the Azteca you'll get a nice room that is well- appointed, in addition to a friendly, warm staff, delicious food, and more activities than you thought you could get at an all-inclusive. Not only were there non-motorized watersports but the catamarans are actually catamaran rides- the oh-so-friendly-and-fun water sport team will take you out for a sail- or a lesson so you can captain your own ship. The sit-down restaurants exceeded the food and service quality I've had at nice restaurants in the states. The buffets were available for wide swaths of time and the food was really delicious. The drinks were great and, to quote my friend, the best mohitos on the planet. The staff were as friendly and approachable as the guest was comfortable with- from nothing beyond ""hola"" to hitting the buffett or dancing after the nightly show. The rooms were more than adequate- they were clean, comfortable, well cared-for, and the furniture was in great condition. Several channels of TV were available in English (~5) as well as at least one each in German and French. Downsides: the whirlpool was not hot. There are no elevators but are accomodations for handicapped guests. We took one of the tours the hotel set up for us called the Tulum Express. The tour guides were great- friendly and fun and informative and willing to chat beyond the canned speech. The downside was that you stopped at a bunch of other hotels making the one-hour trip to get to Tulum at least two hours which really cut down on our time at the ruins (which were nothing short of amazing). We had a great time and leaving was really painful-it really reminded me of staying with long-lost cousins with a great beachside villa.

The last day in Mexico before coming home, my girlfriend and I found out that our money had been taking from my wallet and her purse in our room while we were on the beach. We believe it was the housekeeper or someone from the resort with a ket or access to the rooms. We tried to talk to the manager, but we were told that the manager was in a meeting for 3 hours. After meeting with the manager, the only answer we got from the hotel was ""We are sorry and it will not happen again). Nobody helped us and had to come home with 260 dollars less in our wallets. Food was terrible and stuff helpful.

We originally had resevations at the Maya but were upgraded to Azteca. We stayed 7 days. The buffet was good as was the room service. The snack bar was ok but always had to wait for fresh food. The bar drinks were good. If you slip the bar tender a fiver your drink will not run dry! The room was clean and the A/C worked great. This was our second year to stay here and we haven't been able to go sail surfing. There were many excuses. (too windy, not enough wind, lessons are all booked) We tried every day to get lessons but they never happened. I did notice that the guys running the non-motorized sports would spend alot of time with the you attractive girls that were out on the beach instead of running thier station. They need to hire some guys that are going to do thier job instead of trying to score. Overall we had a good time.

We went with another family. Originally we were booked at the Viva Maya, but got upgraded to the Azteca. The hotel is really nice, very clean and the grounds were constantly cleaned and maintained. I am surprised at the criticism about the food and restaurants. The food at the buffet was very good, with good variety and the menu was changed daily. As for the ala cart restaurants, they did limit us to 3 nights' reservation for our 7 day stay. The food and service were excellent. The beach was very clean. Despite the criticism from other reviews, we had no trouble finding beach chairs. The staff was very friendly and very eager to help when requested. The drinks were initially weak. Tipping definitely helped and after a couple of times, the drinks were definitely up to par. This is a nice hotel providing good value for the money. Not a five star hotel, but comfortable, safe, and met our expectations.

This all-inclusive resort severely disappointed me. There was a lot of food, and a lot of drinks, but it was all of poor quality and watered down. The rooms were okay, and the bed was quite comfortable. The resort was very clean. It is a small resort, with only 270 rooms. However, there are very little activities. There is a beach, and one pool. Though kayaking, windsurfing, and swimming are readily available at the Azteca, one has to walk to her sister hotel, at least half a mile down, in order to use the archery ranges, rock-climbing walls, and trampolines. The gym in the resort had very little equipment and the pool is always filled. There are no elevators, and most of the resort does not have air conditioning. There is one tennis court, at the roof of a room "block". The check-in, concierge, and employees, are all very nice. I would not come to this resort again. Club Med is so much better.
