We were totally impressed! We have been to many all inclusive resorts before and always have found something little where they have cut back on, at the Royal this was not the case! They didn't skip a beat! Everything was top notch! All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were gorgeous, the food was incredible, not to mention the location was perfect! We were able to walk to town every night! We plan on going again soon!

Good service, good food , very clean, okay beach. Walk 1/4 mile north and you will have a much better beach. The hotel and grounds are very nice as is the pool. The food was good but there was'nt any real Mexican food. The food preperation was great but the flavors could have been better. Overall I liked it here but wouldn't feel bad if I tried a different place next time, there are so many nice places to choose from.

From the minute we walked in we were impressed. We were greeted with a moist cool towel and a glass of champagne. The entire staff was wonderful. The food was delicious and the room was pleasant. Loved the idea that there were no children running around, the entire resort was very clean. It was one of my favorite vacations thus far. As we were laying by the pool the staff walked around offereing cold towels, frozen grapes and mists of cold water. The drinks could be a bit weak but ask for a double and problem solved. Resort is in very close proximity (2 blocks) to 5th and 10th street which has tons of shops, restaurants and lounges/bars/clubs. Cant wait to return. I truly recommend this place.

If you are looking for true 5 star service then look no further. I read all of the reviews about this resort before taking a chance on it. I was not disappointed. The suites were great and the food was fantastic. I read a couple of reviews that said the food was not good. It must have been someone looking for momma's chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy. I would consider most of the food gourmet dinning. If you don't appreciate fine dinning then you may not be impressed. Since this was my first experience with all inclusive I was not sure what to expect. Some of the best food I have ever had. I ask other guest that had done all inclusive before for their opinion and was told every time that this was the best food they had ever had. The service from all of the staff was first class. Very warm and friendly. The only thing that I would warn you about is the approach they have at guest services. After you arrive they will ask you to check in at guest services so they can give you information as well as a discount card. They will then try to talk you in to taking a tour of the resort so that you can give them feed back. I told them that I was not interested in time share but they insisted that it was not. I can smell time share when I see it so I declined their invitation. I later ask another guest and was told that it was a time share presentation. Stay away from that and everything else is perfect. I would defiantly go back again.

We stayed at the Royal Aug 18-25 2009 for our honeymoon and it was a great experience. The service will amaze you. The hotel rooms are great, we had a royal jr suite oceanview(if you are a honeymooner ask for the discounted upgrade) which included a hot tub and free mini bar that included snacks, a fridge of pop, water, juices and four bottles of booze. the turndown service included your choice of aromatherapy! The food was great and ranged from buffet style casual to full five course gourmet meals that take 2 hours to eat. If you are on an all inclusive plan you can use all five restaurants at the royal and all the restaurants at the gran porto real next door. The beach and swimming area is large and in good shape with no hurricane damage like the porto real next door. The location of this hotel is great. you walk out the front door and you are right in playa del carmen, no taxi needed. This was my 5th time in mexico and I have never stayed at a place as nice as the royal.
