I stayed at The Meritage Resort recently when the hotel was completely sold out, and I have to say as a very seasoned traveler, I was very impressed with the level of service in every part of the resort. The spa personnel knew how to pamper, the Tasting Room provided excellent wines and expertise and my guest room was spotless and comfortable. From the front desk at check in to the staff I passed in the hallways, I was greeted with a smile. These folks know how to make you feel special.

This hotel is neither quaint nor charming. Don't be fooled by the description. It is a corporate-like hotel for business travelers with unsympathetic management. We booked 3 nights for what we thought would be a restful escape but were unpleasantly woken up due to serious noise issues on 2 nights of our stay - we awoke to the sound of obnoxious jack hammers the 1st morning (8AM) and were kept up the 2nd night by the high pitch whizzing of a vacuum cleaner. We called the front desk after 2 sleepless hours and were told that we ""shouldn't be able to hear the vacuum from your room."" I said, exactly. We shouldn't be hearing it. He said he would walk over check as though we were making it up. Honestly, I'd much rather be sleeping than calling the front desk at 3AM to complain about ghost noises. Apparently they were vacuuming the lobby. Since our room was one of the most undesirable in the resort - just off the lobby - we had no long hallway to buffer the sound. The management was unsympathetic to our complaints and it was only when we called online to intervene that they comped one of our nights. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this resort.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May. The staff was very nice and willing to make your stay better in any possible. The resort itself is lovely and gives off a warm feeling. The rooms are very comfortable and extremily clean (king bed study). I usually bring flip flops to shower in hotels and I didn't feel I needed them at this one. The resort is just minutes from the downtown area and they offer a free shuttle service if you don't have a car. I would stongly recommend renting a car if you don't have one. The local prices are a bit high for dining and entertainment, then again so is everything else in CA! All in all it was a wonderful stay.

After 3 days at the Meritage, I can honestly say I was more than pleased! The grounds were clean and inviting, the staff was very attentive and the services were amazing! The free wine tasting started the weekend off right. I recommend using the concierge services, they found us an amazing restaurant for a quiet, romantic dinner! The location was convenient to all parts of the wine country and was easy to get to and from. The room was comfortable and well equipped and always clean! We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the food was excellent. A little slow in the morning service, but the dinner staff was attentive and quick. ALl in all, I cannot wait to return to the resort for another weekend visit!
