Had a fantastic time
11/04/2009Rooms were very clean and spacious. the staff was friendly and helpfull. i have no complaints other than i had to leave and go back to work.

Just got back from RIU Palace Riviera Maya and I cannot think of enough nice things to say about our stay! The resort was beautiful, the service was outstanding, the restaurants were all great (especially Krystal!!), and the beach was gorgeous! I didn't realize that there were several RIU properties all located on the same strip of beach - and they all looked amazing! I am already looking forward to booking another trip!

We went with another couple to Playa Del Carmen, our first time there and had a GREAT vacation! The hotel was beautiful, very clean, safe, everyone was friendly and polite. The food was great, we couldn't believe the spread they had for breakfast, lunch and dinner (fresh food and good for even the pickiest of eaters!). Drinks were served poolside and while lying on the beach too! We took a cab for $* to Downtown Playa and had a great time shopping and dining - they have great outdoor restaurants there. I can't say enough about the hotel and we can't wait to take the whole family next year! We strongly suggest buying the shuttle through car rental company while booking through travel agency that worked out well and was hassle free! We got an upgrade on our suite to the Junior Deluxe and glad we did; a great view and they stocked our room with cold beer every morning and turned down our beds at night!

My experiences with the Riu "Plalace" hotels has always been great. The service is great, the location is great, best of all are the people, some of the most pleasant people you will ever meet. You can't beat it for the price.

We were 4 girls for a long weekend. It was a complete nightmare, I just couldn’t believe why people would ever return to this hotel. B'fast & lunch is restricted to a tight ridiculous schedule and the only thing available are cold, dry, old “snacks” in the rest. by the pool. Service is awful, employes just don’t care about customer service. Dinner at one of the "a la carte" rests. is only through reservations at least one day in advance and food is terrible and options limited. Rooms are hideous, we booked two doubles and found ourselves in a diminute room with two double beds pulled together to the middle of the room. That was really uncomfortable. The toilets in the reception area –for guests- were repugnant, I tried to use one and had to report it to the manager. Pool is nice. Drinks are good and they just keep coming but, once again, schedule is very restricted. Service in the beach area stops at 5:00 PM, while service in the pool area (including towels) stops at 6:00 PM, when the sun is still fully shining! I seriously recommend to read all reviews and focus on those mentioning any of the highlights above. I did that prior to my trip and even when I found a consistency in the “poor service and lousy food” comments, decided to take a chance and try it.
