This was our first trip to Avila Beach and we lucked out by choosing the La Fonda to stay at The rooms were so nice and only one block to the beach. Service was great and in the evening we enjoyed the; wine welcoming; downstairs in the parlor. We would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here for only one night, as a stopping point while driving up the California coast. As other reviewers have written, it is a nice, romantic hotel - friendly staff, clean, good location near the beach. I was somewhat surprised when I checked in to find that the bed was a trundle bed (the kind that folds up into the wall!). The bed was quite uncomfortable, and squeaked every time any movement was made! When I asked for another room, I was told the hotel was booked. Also, I felt it was overpriced - I realize I stayed for only one night, a Saturday in July, but felt that $* was quite excessive for the room I had. It was a nice experience, but I likely would not stay again. Probably a good hotel for families wishing to visit the beach for a few days...

This is a great hotel and it looks excellent. Being able to hear the people next door is a real issue. If you are seating or standing near the connecting door your neibors voices are crystal clear. the tile floor echo the sound. if the persons next door are in the carpeted section of the suite you can not hear them.

I've been staying in the SLO/Pismo area for over 10 years...about 2-3 times per year. This right now is the best value for the money hotel in the area at $150-175/night. The hotel is one block from the beach/pier...its secluded and close to Sycamore Springs should you want to enjoy the local mineral springs. There are not a lot of local restaurants to choose from, but both SLO and Pismo are less than 5-7 miles away and the drive is scenic. The room is fantastic...we stayed in one of the Great Rooms which includes a full regular kitchen. You don't need A/C in Avila...I lived in Pismo for over a year and never used my A/C. In fact it's usually cool along the Central Coast so prepare to layer up. Yes, you can get a hotel with an ocean view, but this place is both romantic and well-thought out. As far as noise goes...it was a mid-week stay/off-season and so quiet you could hear the frogs at night. Anywhere during high-season will be loud...and I never heard anyone in the next room. Local construction is ongoing, but minimal. The staff was extremely friendly...the best of any hotel stay ever. As long as the prices remain under $200 this is the only place I'll be staying in the future. This is what a hotel should be...everything else pales in comparison.
