This hotel worked well for my wife and I. We enjoy walking, and it is a little less than a mile walk to the beach and fifth avenue. The walk seemed safe and it was in a newer part of town. I would not recomend this to someone that does not enjoy walking unless they don't mind taking a taxi or waiting for a scheduled shuttle ride. the hotel was clean, but very humid and nothing dried. The showers are nice. I would not likely stay here again just because I would like to try something different. The breakfast is also decent, and hardly any meat, somedays none which was annoying.

My husband and I were just at The Holiday Inn Express, Playacar, for a week in early February, 2009. My first impression was that the room was very sterile...marble floors, plain walls, etc. but it was comfortable and clean. The staff could have been friendlier. My husband was upset because the menu for the breakfast buffet advertises both turkey ham and bacon but only twice was there turkey ham and never bacon in the week we stayed. When he asked about it, he got a blank look from staff. The last day, there was only one person, it seemed, cooking, cleaning, clearing tables, etc. Someone must have called in sick and no one seemed to notice from management. The food and coffee ran out, the tables weren't cleared, etc. I really felt sorry for the staff and tried to help clear and wipe tables to help. But the food was good and the price was a great value, so that is really a small issue. Pool area was clean and quiet. The bar was never open while we were there. We did not take the shuttle but walked. We had rented a car but not sure if it was necessary. Would suggest that main desk offer postage stamps and mailing services for their guests to send out postcards. The only advice we got was to find the post office for stamps and mail them there. Seems like a small service to offer with a big convenience factor. Over all, we would stay again and recommend this hotel to those looking for a good bang for the buck, especially with the breakfast buffet (sans meat, even) included.

My boyfriend and I went for Superbowl weekend. We were not informed by the staff that it was an election weekend in Mexico and so there would be no alcohol for sale, anywhere, until the last day of our stay at 6pm. The other resorts were serving americans booze, but not ours. The ""bar"" (just a counter by the pool) was never open the whole time. They could have put a sign up at the front desk telling us, so we could have bought booze and put it in our room ahead of time. WE complained, they didn't care at all. The ""beach club"" was a filthy beach with no amenities, $2 canned beers from a trailer, and not private. The supposed shuttle was never available, either. The room was clean but the maid knocked on our door even when the do not disturb sign was up. The pool was so tiny, the picture must have been a wide angle lens to make it look so big. There is a small airport across the street, so very noisy.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express Playacar, the rooms were clean and comfortable, access to the beach club in Playacar was available most of the time we did take a * taxi a couple of times to the beach club which was a very nice private beach on our first day we even witnessed the going out to sea of some newborn sea turtles, our kids enjoyed this very much. The walking distance from the hotel to 5th street is about 5-6 blocks I would say, not very far. The staff was very welcoming and hepful, I would recommend this hotel, specially for the price.

This hotel could be a great option, for those on a tight budget, because breakfast it's included, there is a pool (very clean). and it has a shuttle service to the fifth ave and beach all included. However, when we arrived we noticed a strong humedity smell at the lobby, but it was stronger once we got to our room, where we even notice the presence of mold in the bathroom. They gave us another room, but the employees did not seem to be surprised about this or concerned. Again, if this problem gets fixed, I would say that this is a great option.
