Unless the word "Romantic" in your mind associates with Daytona-500-motif, car racing, smoky bars, and locals that smoke like chimneys and wear either football jerseys or BF Goodrich jackets, I'd recommend other spots, like Bahamas, for your romantic getaways. This is a nice but no frills hotel for a practical visitor who wants ocean view. Was at an event in nearby DeLand and after it was done, my wife and I had an evening off. The drive to South or Western Florida beaches was too long, so we opted to drive for 20 min to Daytona, the closest beach spot to DeLand. Older, but fairly well maintained and somewhat updated, the hotel is clean and odor-free! It's everything you need for a couple of nights of practical stay on the beach. I recommend upgrading or paying for the full-ocean view (partial view doesn't offer privacy). Also, a section of the ocean view rooms face the pool deck, and a wall of the hotel off to the side. Others face the water directly, so be sure to ask for those. If you choose to go "cheap" and get the partial view, you will get what you pay for, which is 50% of the ocean, and 50% of the other hotel windows. The restaurant offers good breakfast, which is the only meal that we got in the hotel. The service was prompt and curteous. The beach is clean, but the beachline hotels are older and what 20 years ago was probably a hot spot, is now a very dated strip of mainly economy motels. The local restaurant scene constists of rather red-neck-ish bars that suprisingly have good seafood, including oysters at very reasonable prices.

my husband and I just stayed and this hotel on our honeymoon. There are no honeymoon upgrades. In fact the female who checked us in was beyond rude. (however everyone else we met there was extremely friendly) We asked for an upgrade to see the beach and we were on an angle and our balcony only had 1 chair. We couldnt even sit out there together. They didnt even have a room with a king size bed. Our air conditioner sounded like there was a team of hamsters in there. By the end of the trip we couldnt wait to go home and get a nights sleep. The ice machine on our floor didnt work and all of the elevators had a mind of their own. They would go to random floors. And most disappointing is the hotel didnt have a hot tub. Well they do but its in the spa and costs $10 a day per person. Alot of the other resorts have a free hot tub, I recommend checking them out. And at the end of the trip they give you a note under your door telling you what you owe. The safe costs per day so you might as well use it. and it cost to park there everyday. The resteraunt inside the hotel looked cute but we never saw anyone in there eating so we too scared to try it.

This is a very nice hotel. My room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and there were lots of pillows. The shower was very nice. All the employees I had contact with were friendly and knowledgeable. My only minor complaint was the elevator was pretty slow, especially if you were waiting on the first floor. Luckily I was only on the 4th floor, so I took the stairs most times. I ate in the restaurant for breakfast and had the buffet--it was ok, not great, but decent. I would recommend the IHOP across the street for breakfast instead. A very nice place to stay, and when I go back to I will stay again.

DON'T believe all the negative comments of this hotel!!! My fiance & I went away for my birthday and I was apprehensive because of the negativity people had written. We asked to be upgraded to an oceanfront room, the front desk was VERY nice and accommodating! Our room was beautiful and the beds were VERY comfortable! The view was exquisite! The hotel is very unique in itself. It carries a lot of charm and personality from years gone by. Yes, they do need to take care of MINOR upkeep maintenance such as painting the rails around the pool, etc., but all in all it is a fantastic place! One of the best places for relaxation, peace & quite! If you're looking to just get away and avoid all the tourist traps, THIS is the place!!!! Would & WILL definately go back!!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

When we arrived our room was not ready. We had arrived earlier than expected so...no big deal. The front desk staff said to check back in an hour. We checked back still not ready. We were told that we could check back but they guaranteed the room would be ready by 4pm. We took a side trip to Deltona and arrived back at the hotel at 4 pm. Still no room. They offered an inferior room on the pool, we had booked beach front. When we complained they gave us a suite room. Unfortunately it was on the third floor and the side balcony faced the parking lot and we had car lights flashin in our room all night. When we arrived in the room we found it dirty and had to call housekeeping to clean it again. Most staff seemed disinterested except for Mo the bellhop who was wonderful! I needed to work while in Fla. We had nothing but problems hooking into the advertised free high speed internet. I ended up giving up after the service listed on the in room card said the hotel did not have a service contract with them. The hotel is older but claims to have had millions in upgrades. After initial problems we really enjoyed the location on the non-auto traffic poertion of Daytona beach. Food in one resteraunt was good. Pool was large and clean. Suggest they redo the bathrooms and instal a modern sink that could hold womens necessary toiletres. A pedistal sink just has no room. Would we go back again...not sure I loved the SPA and the Spa staff was wonderful. Marcee was just the best. I guess we would consider it because of the location but I would need some assurances before rebooking.
