Stayed at this hotel as part of a large group for grey cup. staff was very accommodating and friendly even offering to help with watermelon carving. room was larger than i expected and was quite nice. the Front desk gave great directions to the best bars(melrose and flames central) they even encouraged us to sit in the lobby and mingle which was very nice by the fireplace. Pool is getting renovated but the people were friendly one of the contractors loaned me a snow brush for my avis rental which did not have one. Breakfast gal saw me coming and made sure I got fresh hot decaf when i came in. great place to be - i hope there is a hotel like this in edmonton 2010!

First of all we showed up and parked in the sketchy parking lot under the hotel which did not have a door or anything to keep anyone out. We then found our way to the door which lead you inside ( which is usually locked and only swipe key access was granted but it was broken so ANYONE could just walk right in the hotel no questions asked. The counter staff was really nice and accommodating but when he gave us the keys to the room he said go up the elevator to the 1st floor and your room will be there. We got in the (side) elevator, not the nice looking one, I mean this one looked like it was from the 40's and smelled like it too! There was a funky odor in the hallway leading to our room. I was not impressed at all and could just imagine what the room was going to be like. Oh and by the way we had 'upgraded to a King room' for an extra $* so I thought we were gonna have a nice big room like the ones in the photos .....We open the door and the air conditioning was on....its November....so its freezing and has the worst smell ive ever smelled in a hotel before. The decor was NOTHING like the photos and neither was the view...which I understand can be expected. So I phone down to the front desk confused that there might be another new wing of the hotel and he acted surprised like he had no idea what I was talking about. They said they couldnt do anything because I booked it online so he said to hang on ill grab you the number for them....he didnt...terrible hotel!

By far the worst hotel stay we have ever had. The lobby was nice and the staff friendly, but once we got off the smelly elevator which took us to the second floor, we proceeded down the hall which was in the middle of a renovation stripped wallpaper, taping job, no base trim. Had to ask the maid to tell us which room it was as there was no room number on the doorstripped off as well&. Upon entering the room, we noticed there was a window, but you couldn't see out of it as it had a white film covering on it. There was a 12" gap at the top, so we looked out to see why the view was blocked and noticed a very large mechanical unit on the other side. Turns out this unit sounds like a gun shot when it fires up and would wake us up every 1/2 hr during the night. The pool was dirty and had unidentified objects in it. We noticed it was closed the day we checked out, so maybe they do clean it once in a while. The air conditioning unit leaked water and soaked the floor by the bed. Breakfast was o.k.

Days Inn Calgary South is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Despite my reservation (and what I payed for) they first tried to put me into smoking room, after my complaint and their comments on having all the rooms sold (big drama) they found me nonsmoking room, but standard (I payed for upgraded). There was no use to argue since they behave as if they didn't understand english. Moreover - my room was lacking remote control and garbage can (!!!); bed frame got broken during attempt of moving it away from air conditioner, shower curtain stunk, coffee-maker was broken and the swimming pool was out of order during my entire stay (one week). Sounds like a bad dream, doesn't it? But it was Days Inn Calgary South reality.
