First, before getting to the hotel, don't waste $78 on the round-trip Tukari airport transfers (I'm a little annoyed the travel website even offers this). It costs $* including tip to go anywhere in Puerta Vallarta so you can get a ready and waiting cab roundtrip for $*. The Tukari "transfers" are a rip-off -- I watched Tukari pay the cab driver the equivalent of about $* to take us to the airport so obviously they are pocketing a huge profit at your expense. Now, the Westin was nice but it sure didn't seem like a Westin. It was a three-star hotel at best and the bathtub was dirty with hair all over it. Nice beach view. Beach was small but my kids didn't mind. They had a great time which made the trip worthwhile. Formal restaurant was still closed in November 2009 when I went (see other reviews going back to June). Staff was very friendly, service was somewhat slow, food was acceptable but nothing special. However, the price was right and you probably will have a good time in line with the cost.

My girlfriend and I went to the Westin for a vacation (but also for me to pop the question) and had an AMAZING time. First - the bad: the formal restaurant (Arrafices?) was closed for renovations; the bed wasn't quite as nice as usual for a Westin; the beach was a bit small. That's it! I paid a little extra for the nicer Beach Club rooms on the 12th floor with balconies - A MUST!!! The staff was awesome and we never had to wait long for drinks or food...if anything, we were getting TOO much service. The food is truly the best I have had in a Mexican resort. The pool is not quite as nice as the Moon Palace in Cancun but both of the ones at the Westin were fantastic: clean and big. One was mostly for kids and activities but the other was relatively quiet and peaceful - important for drinking. Completely devoid of any time-share crap (except for the airport). We used the Tukari transport and it went picture perfect. Our room wasn't ready when we got there, but they found us another ready at that time. The prices were reasonable even at the resort. I popped the question on a little reef/outcrop off the beach during the beautiful sunset. It was truly amazing and a incredibly relaxing vacation. HIGHLY recommend it.

We were expecting a luxurious ""Conde Nast Golden 100"" experience. This hotel does not live up to other Westin properties that we have stayed at. Perhaps it was due to ""slow season"" or perhaps it was due to the H1N1 flu travel slowdown, but the service left a lot to be desired. One of the two restaurants was closed ""for remodeling"" (we saw no evidence of work being done), but our bellhop recommended it to us for dinner on our first night. We walked there (in the rain) to find it empty, no 'closed' sign, just empty. There was no concierge - for six days. No one to recommend restaurants or help book tours. The business center was rarely open and you had to pay to get online for very slow connections. There were few standard amenities in the spa - such as soap in the shower (men's and women's). Out of a common liquor to make a house specialty drink at the swim up bar - for the full week. The food at the remaining restaurant was mediocre and overpriced, but were forced to eat there a few times due to illness. Overall the service was friendly, though there were a few people who didn't seem to know basic things about staying at the hotel or in the town. The most help we received was from one of the valets, who directed us to a few restaurants and was helpful with taxis. The room was nice enough, though not a four star room. We stayed in an ocean view room, the view was nice. The beach was not very nice, small and there was a lot of trash in the water, even with staff cleaning it every day. We got a good deal, but I would not go again.

It was a very relaxing vaction for me. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. Clean rooms, great pools, fitness center and spa. Restaurant had great food and service. The security of the Westin was excellent. I have nothing to say but good things. Visit Puerto Vallarta and the Westin, there is no swine flu, really.
