I recently stayed in this hotel for a week or so and it was the best service I have ever received at any hotel. The language barrier was a bit of a struggle, but nothing that completely barred me from having any sort of communication with the staff. Everyone is friendly and polite and ready to help you with anything that you might need. The back of the hotel opened up into an absolutely beautiful garden with a koi pond and lanterns. It looks just as great as night as it does during the day. There are also convenient shuttle buses to Disney Land, Disney Sea, and the Narita Airport. The location is also ridiculously convenient. A five minute walk down the street gets you to the station, a 7-11, a Mcdonalds, a pachinko parlor, numerous restaurants and shops, and a couple more convenience stores. If you walk just a bit further, you hit a little shrine tucked away inbetween some more modern buildings. Overall, everything was great and I would easily stay here again.

The hotel rooms were very spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the bell captain who helped us locate restaurants and shops. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The hotel grounds were very pretty and well maintained. We would stay at this hotel again if we are in Tokyo.

Stayed for 2 nights, almost perfect! Very close to major station Shinagawa, that have connections to every corner in Tokyo. Lots of hotels around the area. Beautiful garden which is perfect for a break from the stressful meetings. Food is good, staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel entrance is on the hill so if you missed the shuttle, you will have to walk some 10 mins from street level (hard work particularly for uphill). Suggest hotel to have most frequent shuttle services, and small printed shuttle schedule to give away, and don't stop running the shuttle between 2 to 6pm.

We stayed at the New Tanakawa when we arrived in Tokyo, and chose to stay at the older Tanakawa after we traveled to other parts of Japan. This Tanakawa is a classic hotel with impeccable hospitality, incredible staff, and less tourist groups. Our children (3 of them) shared a room which is of very good size. Our own room is bit smaller than the one at the New Tanakawa but equally comfortable. The hotel is close to the Shinagawa station, and the hotel provides a regular shuttle if you have lots of luggage. Otherwise, walking is faster than waiting for the twice hourly shuttle.
There are many restaurants around the train station. A good value is the buffet offered at some of the restaurants in nearby hotels; food is good and price is reasonable. This Tanakawa does not offer buffets though. One can also get food from nearby department stores for an inexpensive lunch, like many Japanese do.
