This was our second trip to the Palace. The Riu has 2 other properties in the close vicinity, however this is their Flagship. The Krystal restaurant is a must do. Make your reservations at 8am for the restaurants and get a towel on your pool chair by 7am to assure a good spot. The buffet has better food than most other buffets we have experienced. The hotel in general ,and the room in particular was spotless. There is cleaning constantly going on. The water in the beach pool was a little cooler than expected however after a while you got used to it. Nice bargain shopping across the street and the beach vendors have great fake Oakley sunglasses. Don't pay more than $* for a single pair. You need to go to the main bar off the lobby and look for AB (the bartender) he is very attentive....but watch out for the Tequilla shots!!!

This was my first time to Cancun and my gf's second, and it was truly wonderful! We were there from Nov 1-Nov 4 . From the time we arrived till the time we left, we were spoiled by friendly, attentive staff, GREAT food and a small but gorgeous beach that we could see from our room window. An added benefit was that we could go to the Riu Cancun next door - which we did one day and had some of the best ribs we've ever had! (yes, food is important!). Riu Cancun also has a nicer, bigger beach which made for a nice change - they also seemed to have more of a family orientation. Riu Palace seemed more adult-oriented, which is what we were kind of looking for, but then again it was low peak season. We spent the majority of our time either on the beach or in one of the three jacuzzis, being brought drinks two at a time with a smile. Having done the all-inclusive experience, I think I'll be hard pressed to vacation normally!

I was reluctant of booking this hotel based on the very mixed reviews I had read here, but I was more than glad to find out upon arrival that I had made the right choice. LOCATION: Las Americas is located in the middle of the nightlife and shopping area of the zona hotelera in Cancun. The local bus runs along the strip and can be taken right outside the door and on your way back will drop you only two blocks down from the hotel. STAFF AND SERVICE: Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Most employees understand and speak fluently english. They will tend to you even when people do not tip them, which was something that surprised me given the quality of service they provide. CLEANLINESS: I have read about the strange smell one perceives in the lobby, but that is just the mist from being so close to the sea. The rooms were impeccable and you'll get everything you need in yours: ironing board, blow dryer, plenty of towels, a fully stocked bar and a big closet. You will also receive a lock to deposit your valuables in the safe located inside the closet. FOOD: This would be my only complaint about my stay at the Riu. For a hotel chain of this level the restaurants were very poor. Out of three we tried only Krystal was outstanding. Avoid the sushi and rodizzio, go for the buffett or try the rest. next door. POOL AND BEACH: Clean as they come. They actually sweep the sand every morning. Not spacious beach but plenty of room to enjoy. Two pools, one more laid back and one to hang out and drink. Overall a great stay for the price, definitely would go back!
