The Quadrant is located near the University of Auckland and is surrounded by University buildings and housing. The area has a big city feel with lots of people, noise and traffic. The hotel is very difficult to get into because there is only room for one car to pull in and unload; you have no choice but to valet park the car. Once you enter the hotel, you get an entirely different vibe. The hotel boasts a colorful hip music theme with lots of clean lines and white and black marble. The Zen garden was a nice touch. The hotel and rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable, but the bathroom is quite small. The staff was great: polite, prompt & attentive. There wasn't food available in the hotel so we were sent next door to a neighboring hotel that was absurdly expensive. There is delivery available from local eateries at a fair price. If we stayed within the city, we would stay here again.

  • A good choice if you get a dsicounted rate

Close to the University of Auckland and the city centre, a one-bedroom suite came with a microwave, hot plates, fridge, dishwasher and washer/ dryer. This allowed me to make simple meals and wash my jeans when they got covered in mud on an excursion. The bathroom was small and cramped but the suppled toiletries were superior to those that you usually find in good hotels. The bell captain was very helpful when my baggage did not arrive with me. He took over phoning the airline until they finally delivered my bags to the hotel. In other cases service was poor. I asked repeatedly to get a bulb replaced in a light fixture and it never got done. Same story with the missing battery in the phone that I thought might hamper me getting messages (though this was probably not the case). Like most New Zealand hotels you pay for internet service and the Quadrant's charges were typical--$NZ40 for 7 days access. However, a colleague got his conference paper printed up for free. There is a cafe bar that serve light meals and drinks--although I never tried it. In short, not a spectacular place to stay but a very acceptable one since theie rooms are often offered on discount. In fact, I got a free upgrade from a studio to a one-bedroom apartment.
